i mean, do you know what they're doing?
do they themselves know what they're supposed to do?
what do you need a MP for a very large area for?
job creation, wealth sharing.

Singapore is just a tiny dot and we have more than 70 MPs. I am surprised to hear that a big country like US does not have that many as Singapore. These extra ones exist to suck more of our money.
scale down to 55 MPs to save cost, abolish MM and SM post, abolish parliamentary secretary post, appoint only one DPM, no need mayor, increase SMC seats and reduce GRC seats. The above are my suggestions to cut cost. Too much $$ is being siphon off

Good suggestion. I have one more to add, change the PM. WE need someone capable, mature, intelligent and full of passion for the nation to be our PM.
we have a couple of zui gong lampa song people![]()
This is no playground, kid.

i have not implied so, you deduced so.....
why is a playground for the immatured?
einstein has alluded that the lab is his playground, so how do you explain it?
of course, unless your understanding of the playground is the stuff made of slides, ladders, swings, then i surrendered. you are the playground.

Frankly speaking, more MPs can take turns to shake hands with the public.
The Mayor post shouldn't have have been created in the 1st place. Is your local constituents so big that warrants a Mayor to look into the area?
Then, what is the point of having MPs for? It is akin to getting a Junior Secretary to attend to Defence Matters and then what is the Def Minister is for?
We already have PM, SM, and MM. The SM to guide the PM; and the MM to guide the SM to guide the PM (maybe SMM after LHL step down).
So it is no suprise we have so many MP as well. This is UNIQUELY SINGAPORE. ![]()
maybe they are trying out minister vacancy for employment

When LKY dies, I think he will be also given posthumous "permanent" post, like ancient Chinese emperors.
Something like "First Minster". Maybe should run a seperate thread for ideas of what the posthumous minister position be called.

So when MM die, call "First Minister", when SM die, call "Second Minister", and so on? ![]()
for each mayor post is created, does this mean more talented talent will be getting the high market value?
wow, so fortunate leh, these schoolars.
Mayor only
applies
to big
city
I think why Singapore has so many MPs because MPs are based on MP to Population Ratio, not MP to Country Size Ratio.
Singapore's 84 MPs based on 4million ppl is actually quite normal compared to similar Westminster style countries.
As for the Mayor post. Wasn't this created like around the turn of the century?
It wasn't really clarified what Mayor can or cannot do and what Council they lead. Also, Singapore's 2 Mayors are controlling areas with boundaries the typical Singaporean won't know.
In a typical City, if there was a municipal problem or issue. The resident will lodge a complaint to the municipal office. The Municipal office will discuss the problem with the municipal committee, Commitee includes people like, Police Chief, Waste & Sewage Chief, Roads and Traffic Chief, Finance Chief, Education Chief, Licenses Chief, etc.
It is spelt out clearly that there is NO ONE else you can approach if you encounter problems. So their duties are clearly defined.
But in Singapore, Policing is done by SPF, Waste and Sewage by NEA (or Onyx), Roads & traffic by LTA, Finance (town council), Education (MOE), Licenses (SPF or related agency)
They do not represent themselves in Town Council meetings.
This leave me to wonder what a Mayor in Singapore actually does other than sending newsletter every quarter.

Hmmmmppffffffffffffffffffffff
.
For immatured people in power Singapore is indeed a playground they said so themselves
Let me quote the bastard speaking through the Ambulance radio,
"We just want to play with him"
And oh yea all beautiful gals in Singapore have been reserved. The govt should have branded them on the forehead. Lest the govt try to kill people in discreet for falling in love with any of them of which after failing to finish me off they launched a campaign to falsely accused me of being insane.
Kids....life is a choice and life is free and I'm a free man. If you want to walk with 4 limbs do that in the zoo not in the street.

Really? Than China or India will have more than 100 times the number of MP? How they manage to fit all into the parliament (no wonder China have to be communist...).
That is why yesterday I proposed to reduce the no of MPs, 1 MP can look after 70,000 ppl, so we end up having 65 MPs
