I notice that the term "chauvinism" is being misused here sometimes.
To
my understanding, the meaning of chauvinism is being blindly and
aggressively proud of own group of identity be it country, race or
gender.
For example, country A fighting with country B. Citizens of country A support A even if A is wrong.
This although is chauvinism but I am less resistance to it because a portion of this chauvinism is due to patriotism.
It is like a son who side his mother even when his mother is at fault. He is wrong but at least he is filial enough.
There is another type which is worse than chauvinism. Imagine a son so
scared that people might call him chauvinist, so he purposely oppose
whatever his mother do, be it right or wrong, he just want to attack
blindly. To make it worst, he can even accuse his siblings of being
chauvinist without the least sense of guilty when his siblings help his
mother.
This kind of person is usually more dishonest, timid and superficial.
If everyone take the middle path instead of overdoing it, our society will be free of unnecessary disputes & accusation.
Just my 2 cents, comments are welcome.
Can you provide an example where the term "chauvinism" is most often misused?

What about ""chauvinism" in Religion?
I had observed this is even more pronounced in uncertain groups from the way they attempt to spread their beliefs and demonizes other religions. Won't this be applicable the term's "blindly and aggressively proud of own group?

I think you can treat it as chauvinism also.
But it doesn't come as often, at least not that I know in this forum.
You have any encounter before?
Tang Liang Hong is a chinese chauvinism according to pap. he was smeared during the GE 1997
I think I encounter more cultural and religious chauvinism in this forum- Sometimes religious type is hidden and not revealed but one kind of develop a suspiscion of the real attitude of the poster-
Think the second kind can only be described as being rebelious.
