I still think it will be a matter of time for him to `retire', for as long as MSK is not found. if really nothing is done still, then PAP has a lot to answer for the incompetence they breed from within.
Separately, my read is that Vivian is also pegged back. His arrogance in the last few months shows how disconnected he is from the common man.
Personally, i don't read too much into the cabinet reshuffle overall. the same guys gets rotated.
Prof Ho should retire. I personally like Prof Ho.
vivian was staunch anti-govt in his uni days. he was bought over.
there wasn't much of a reshuffle anyway, just plus and minus.
mah bow tan, lim hng kiang, wong kan seng, all still here.
The same "old" gang. I think once LKY gone and LHL getting older, factions will come out of the woodwork. The knives will be sharpened for a fight for supremcy.

in some ways, i can't wait. the presence of LKY is so stifling. it is like singapore got stuck in a huge political inertia.
pls wake me up when that happens!
They try to suppress the able like George Yeo to rise, george is a potential PM calibre, in fact speaks better than LHL, anyway, this reshuffle is nothing, chinese say 'change soup never change medicine'
why they dont put george yeo to be DPM, age is a lousy excuse, look at Abdullah and Najib, age different a few years only, it is a lame excuse, they are scare of George Yeo because he is more brilliant.
Why would the Hakka clan put a Teochew in power?
I wonder he can speak Hakka properly, given that old lee tried to abolish all dialects
Under pap rule, the hokkien say ' chia boe pa. yao boe si ' meaning ' u cant fill your stomach full, but u cant go hungry til u die'
Prominent Hakkas include LKY clan, Lee Teng Hui, Thaksin and Hong Xiuquan.
"Consequently, the Hakka, to a greater extent than other Han Chinese, have been historically associated with popular unrest and rebellion."
see the pattern of divisive aka "splitist" a**h****s?
Personally, i don't think clan plays a role here. i am not sure but it will be like `spliting hairs within the party' if PAP were to make their appointments according to the dialect group. if LHL is uncomfortable with BG Yeo, it is for a reason. Maybe it is because BG Yeo almost got whipped in the last election?
My question, is Singapore ready for an Indian PM post-LHL?
My point being is that the highest post would be reserved for someone MOST affliliated/related with LKY.
Its not the race or racial subgroup of the PM but who is willing to step forward and present better ideas and a better vision than the current lot. If an Indian Singaporean says he is willing to be leader and change PAP's policies, I am sure people would vote for him/her regardless of race. It better not be Miss Vivian IMHO.

there's a higher than proportionate-to-population number of indians in the cabinet... jaya, shanmugam, vivian, tharman, one-fifth of the cabinet when their population is one-tenth.
an indian PM is not impossible. as for the next PM i think he's already found but they're not going to let him overshadow LHL so soon...

an interesting question, who is in LKY's inner circle?
LHL, WKS, GCT,.....who else?
More like promotions. Senior ministers like getting more salary and doing less job. Like Senior PM.
However LKY will appoint Indian PM successor ... only as a scapegoat if he believes that PAP will lose. Dont know LHL though.

the problem with LKY's planning, is that he does not put in place a system that ensures continuity no matter who the PM is. he just planned until LHL becomes PM, that's the final chapter in his masterplan, for better or worse.
Cabinet changes... Here in Singapore, that's like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

when was this article? Didn't LHL say this sometime back. If I read the above correctly, isnt he implying the next PM are not the current batch of ministers.
Continuity implies a sort of ideology other than nespotism or cronyism. I doubt LHL can make it past the next 5 years if he give off these kind of wink wink signals.
You know what the worst part of all this is all the Eurotrash politicians treat LHL like the Prince of Monaco. At least the Americans are more reserved in professing admiration for their junior partner (who didnt go to Iraq) on the war on terror.
It has been announced changes in minister's appointment but when will there be changes made to DPM appointment?
Who will be the next DPM?
Dont plan so long pap, u will never know the result of next GE ? r u sure pap is the government again ? u plan until before u reach 70, but if another political tsunami like that in malsia, how?
Don't be too arrogant, a minister with 30 years experience may also lose election, if the ppl are fed up of u
I want the Lees and PAP to go.
I don't want them to remain in power.

if everyone's scolding the government, who is voting them out?
