I had a rude jolt of reality for living in Singapore this morning. I was conned into buying a skin treatment package from New York Skin Solutions at Ngee Ann City for $4280. I was told the package will cost me $1500 at the end of the treatment but I had to fork out $4280 and then the comapny will give me a rebate of $2000 and $500 in products.( They needed my race to be a spokesperson, long story). I had not started the treatment. They had only taken out the full amount from my credit card. After finding out I was duped the next day I went back and asked to cancel the deal as it was way too much for me. They said I was not getting any thing back. I talked to a few people and everyone including the STB staff asked me to call the credit card comapny and cancel the transaction. They said they can not do such a thing. In all the other "first world" countries credit cards protect the consumers and they have a set time when if one is not happy with the purchase, it can be refunded. Why are cards in Singapore not under such a law???
The credit company neveer wrong la..
In the first place, why u sign? Don't
point finger at credit card company,ok??
Or u blame on New York skin solution better...
Uh.. actually.. it's not cancelation lah.
The credit card companies.. have buyers protection policies.
They allow customers to dispute the charges.
They will try to hold back the payments and charges until the disputes gets settled, and mediation/investigation will be carried out.
Different credit cards has different policies.
This is how they compete for customer market share. By offering better services, most consumers will choose to use their prefered card.
Since the credit card companies charges a certain percentage to the merchants, they want consumers to swipe their own card instead of the others.
American Express has the best policy in the USA. I'm not sure about credit companies in Singapore. Since.. in Singapore it's always buyers own risk culture. Very unlike US.. where refund policies are very lenient.
Poreans need not worry too much.
Things are not carved in stone.
You have the choice.
CHANGE the system.
