I ust grad from HigherNitec
the enviroment is that most of the people there still want to fail and not work hard, if you skip 70-80% of the lessons, u will be barred from exams, u have to appeal to be allowed to take exams..usually a simple "i am sorry, i was wrong" will just put you back into the exam halls
I think they must change the outlook of the ITE students.
They don't have an achieving outlook.
But the real problem in my opinion is a deeper and larger one that concerns the entire education system.

how to? they themselves know that by eaving sec sch for the ITE, they're already going down the lowest education route for tertiary level. When the students have this kinda mentality, the good ones will strive even harder to make themselves good and worth of going to a poly and maybe even further on to a degree.
the average ones will just take life easily not knowing how hard it will be further down the road. and when majority of the students are like this, even the lecturers also have no passion to teach and instead just go through the motions.

That is why I say the problem is a larger one and concerns the entire reforming of education system.

the teachers now prefer students who can make them proud..if u are those can do well in CCA, chances u can get 4.0 even u copy other ppl work during exams

but what can the education system do? take off the whole ITE system and make the entry to polys easier?
I think we can make a study of other countries' example.

Just make sure the teachers in ITE 'tekan' the students more with more and more projects/test etc etc. Fail any one of them, go drink coffee with HOD. Fail the 2nd one, bye bye. Kick you off.

and many of em will get kicked out.. then too much spaces and too many campus!
like what this lecturer has said, tekaning the students gets you bad reviews etc... the students mentality are just plain childish to not see what lies ahead of em.
Singapore society is becoming more rigid due to this type of system such as ITE.

Once these ITE grads starts their first ever working life, they sure regret. I know many of the former ITE grads now taking part time poly. Work in the day. Study at nite.
See lah. Like what my mom told me: Last time asked you study you go play marble. Now then regret......
TS, you are teaching Class H.. EL0604.. Info com.. Right?
there must always be ppl to fill the lower rank of society. Sad as it seems, thats just how things work around here.

Isn't this why we import foreign labor ?
hmmmm.. not surprising luh.
Although that is the sad truth, but those who dont wannt work hard dont deserve a share of the pie. Especially in SG when it is so competitive already. Working society context.

Who will be so stupid to study for an exam which you will can't fail? Why go attend lesson when there's no need to?

You still can fail if they set their standard higher. But who will be disadvantaged?
If we lower the standard to help some grp of ppl, other grp of ppl abuse it. So what should the teacher do?
I guess I just don't have that type of patience TS has. If I am the lecturer for that module and the attendance is very low, I will be very happy because I deal with smaller number of ppl and am paid equally. During exams, if they don't know how to do it and leave it blank, this will make my marking easier and faster (less reading).
A nice read. I myself is from ITE and still studying now.
I have to agree with you that the students will be unhappy once the teacher becomes too strict or whatever. Some of those in my class feel that my current class advisor is too strict for our own good. But from my point of view, I feel that he just want us to do well and want us to have good results as its a total different story when we step out to work next time.
is TS a info comm tech lecturer?
I'm the first batch to get into this course in ITE baleister =D and i get into Poly also
