hehe, then the purists will say this is not FOS.
Actually freedom of speech can be easily abused, so there should be punishments to deal with that.
That is my view.
From an anonymous Dane:
We apologise, we apologise
We apologise, because we gave you housing and help
We apologise, because we give you an education
We apologise, because we help you economically
We apologise, because we let you worship your god in our Christian country
We apologise, because we send help to your countries
We apologise, because we don't claim bloody vengeance for the murders of our countrymen by the hands of Muslims
We apologise, because we don't strut around with explosives strapped to the body, when we feel insulted
We apologise, because we don't just do what your faith dictates
But an apology for expressing ourselves in our own country and after our own rules – that you will never have

The problem is that if some sort of punishment is waiting for a speaker...... then that would hardly be true FOS.
A better question would be - "How could we ensure the speaker will be respondsible for what He/She is talkin about".

agree.
We should allow people to voice out, we wouldn't know whether they will abuse this right or not.
If the authority think that their speech violate the laws, then take action.

But you do see the irony right...... if the authority deems your speech to have violated some laws, but you Disagree...... won't we have come back to square one ![]()
The problem is we don't always agree with the 'Authority' on what is OK or NOT OK to talk about..... ![]()
Think about this..... go to 'Speaker Corner' near Chinatown, sign a simple form and show your IC. Follow the rules on what could or could not be said..... then you could also talk there as much as you wants..... But is that what we are aiming for ![]()

Don't believe everything that you read in Pravda.
Freedom of Speech is alive and well in the United States.
People routinely protest the actions of their President, their government in general, the war in Iraq, Muslim extremists trample the American flag. And even racists are allowed to spew their ignorance and parade in street. Of course ignorant racist people are a minority always outnumber by counter protesters.People are only arrested when the cross the line and break the law. Protesting China or the Olympics is not illegal. Interfering with the torch procession is illegal. And many people were arrested for that.
I have a lot of issues with the United States. But the right for people to express themselves is not one of them.
When China, North Korea, Vietnam, Laos, and Cuba allow their citizens to speak their mind. Then you can tell me how wonderful communism is ![]()
There is rthe ight for freedom of speech under our constitution. But of course there is a limit to that freedom under the law.One can't say something which is contrary to the regarding law.I believe most of us know what those law are.
Do u think the topic "LKY, when are u going to die?" should be allowed?
in North Korean language Tibet is called 서장(西,the Chinese way)but in south Korea it's called 티뱃(Tibet, the English way)S.Korea is just a dog feeded by U.S.A.

Ah yes....US is a country where freedom of speech allows people to be dumb....evolution? Not accepted in some areas because people have the right to voice out what they THINK is correct, as compared to what IS correct.
Then another half of the US is controlled by their 'free' media. (They belived in whatever the media is telling them is true, nevermind if the media is telling lies or reporting in a biased tone.) How many people can even realise that fox news isn't a reliable source for information for instance? Fox news is like several times worse than any other media outlet.
If you thinks that mediacorp is biased, wait till you see fox news.
Question is, where do you draw the line between responsible freedom of speech. Running into the airport shouting "bomb!" is obviously an irresponsible exercise of freedom of speech. Of course as everyone will say, thats obviously wrong! What an idiotic question. But when we change the contents of what its said and slide it away from the "Extremes", where exactly do we cross the mark that indicates "responsible" freedom of speech?
Right: Argue rationally and speaking honestly.
Wrong: Speaking dishonestly, insulting others and using vulgar words.
Right.. I do not wish my freedom of speech wrt profanities. I do not wish to lose my freedom to joke as well, since most jokes are untrue.
So, where do we draw the line?
freedom speech is good ,it enhance communication ,decrease mutual communication barriar ,and clear mis understanding. But don't go to extreme.
