"when has PAP ever MANIPULATED the market?"
Temasek, GIC, NTUC Income supermarkets, HDB, etc too many to list the whole consortium of STATE owned companies + GST + fuel tax + STATE controlled currency and you say that PAP has no control over the economy and prices. The list can go on and on and on.. you really want to challenge people?
Your mock outrage is as real as your nick unless you want to go for a sex change.
I never said NO control.
I said the govt does not manipulate the market. State-owned stuff does not equate to manipulating market, not directly in the sense.
State owned enterprises/monopolies/oligopolies especially those that are as rich and interconnected as Singapore Inc. does much more to manipulate the market than any single policy set by any government.
"I never said NO control."
Thats the understatement of the year. PAP has almost total control over the economy. DBS, Keppel Shipbuilding, Keppel Properties...I can keep going on and on.
GST and fuel tax does not distort prices?
One day, I swear I will come up with an organization chart of Singapore Inc. and its associated ministries etc.
All for a 4 million population island corporation.

i'm so looking forward to that, seriously. to know inside out.
LKY has such a chart on his computer somewhere. Of course, he sits on the top of the pyramid....

that should be the easiest to guess. no prize for correct guess on the next in line.

Isn't it because they left it to market forces that people are kao-behing?
So if the govt leaves it to the market, SDP will kao beh. If the govt attempts to MANIPULATE, also kao beh. What they want? Isn't a minimum wage a manipulation of the market?
And I dare SDP to try to tackle the inflation.
SDP is not paid million dollar salaries to solve national problems.
I don't think too much about them and their party but they do have a point at times.
Really. ![]()
Restructuring wages is not the way to address rising costs? Wow, we do have a genius up there. A genius that recieved restructured wages albeit.
He's right though. If the employer has to pay more for his manpower, where does he get his money from? Costs of products or services rendered by the company would also increase. This is gonna happen across the board, hence an upward spiral.
Rising fuel and food costs is a hot potato around the world. No one has a true solution for it. Don't expect the Men in White to have also. They aren't gonna take a pay cut for us, so we Lan lan suck thumb, suck in our stomach and tighten our belt.
End of the day, cos we got no natural resource, and hardly produce anything, I fear we are gonna be the hardest hit of all. We can either choose to be cheap, and attract more foreign investors looking to save money, or be caught in the upward spiral.
Oh of course it would help if Temasek or GIC would start to look at investing in Singapore more instead of losing money elsewhere.

When you have control, even partial control, market manipulation occurs.
Take one example, when only Singtel is allowed to supply internet access services to business, they charge $400-500/mth for unlimited access plan but once Starhub is also authorize to do so, Singtel slash their prices to $99/mth. This means Singtel is still able to turn a profit at 80% price reduction (amid rising inflation)
where did all that profit got? the stock holders (government) then in to the pockets of ministers as their 'salary'
not raising wages means more profit from companies under government control so again translate to more money for minister's 'salary'
If you do enough research, you will realised that private companies pay better than government link companies. It is only those working for the GLCs that really need the pay raise but in doing so would affect the minister's salary hence the announcement.
I think that increasing buying power is a right solution for the lower caste.
They aren't lazy, they hold a job.... I'd think its unfair that they can't make ends meet despite working (throughout) their lives.
rising wage to address rising cost is not a solution, so what is the right solution ? cut wages ? increase ministerial pay this Oct 08, can it solve rising cost ?

increase the pay and later tell everyone that the increase is going to be donated to charities.
... it seems the logic is that all costs in services & goods can increase, but wages must be decreased to remain 'competitive'... this is to keep the cost of labour low in SG so that foreign investors will stay...
... if you look at the above reasoning, do you see a contradiction?
... I mean, of course if we are paid more then obviously services & goods will increase as well...
... but as it is now, with low wages of foreign talents and locals who fights to remain employed, are services & goods any cheaper? ... no.
... so, where's the solution? where's the logic?
... obviously, the positive effects are better received and experienced by the rich and of course the boys in white who lives in their Ivory Towers...
Raising wages may be an enticing option but that is not the right solution, said Acting Manpower Minister Gan Kim Yong.
Yep when they raise their bloody MP salaries !!! How come he did not stand up and say that statement !!!
Crab !!! Of course it is not a option - raise already - still let a limping terrorist got away !!!
Fire the whole lot !!!!
We must increase minister salaries by another million or two so that they can ensure dangerous people won't escape through toilet windows at the detention centre. ![]()
"increase the pay and later tell everyone that the increase is going to be donated to charities."
btw which charity did LHL donate to? The LKY foundation?

We are paying these sleeping dogs million dollars to serve the peasants better.
So, are they worth a million ?
Answer: NO !
Just read the 154th times Page 3.
The poodle have proudly announced that they will be using 7.5 million peasant money to install security camera to catch litter bug so that they can raise the town council fees.
Can they put the 7.5 million dollars for better use ?
The slap on the face is the article next to it showing needy peasants queueing up for free food.
What a good time to waste peasant money !
If this Phua is not a fool, I dunno what she is or did she meet the peasant at all ?
" install security camera to catch litter bug "
Relax lah. If anyone get caught, just say "you people damn good ah, very fast can catch me but lost the terrorist MSK..."
Goes to show what kind of pygmy brain these PAP bureaucrats have.

According to Newsweek, they reported that the global economy has doubled in the last 15 years to $54 trillion. And global trade grew by 133% in that same period. Makes you wonder why we are feeling so much effect from the inflation.
Imagine the inflation when oil hits $200 a barrel...

Runaway bureaucracy?
SDP/WP/SDA sign should read "What to do? YOU voted PAP in"
