Whether you want to keep it active or inactive during the 2 years is entirely up to you. For me, I taught tuition partly because I want the things to be fresh in my head.
If your mental strength isn't there in the first place, NS or not doesn't make a difference.

i don't get it.
what did you lag in? do one not learn and experience new things, even in ns? new friendship form, new horizon emerged, virginity lost (for the late starter), getting new perspective in life, etc.
is your life in a standstill?
i dun understan how you can lag behind in life just because your course of life takes an expected, different turn.
........and it has nothing to do with my 2.5 years lag.
NS is actually a good break away from studies but 2 years is too long already.

Since you decided to avoid the part about 26 years of age i assume you agree to the that number and the fact that ns did delay it. it's up to you to keep it alive, but that doesn't mean that the time in ns is not a barrier. Just because the barrier/difficulty can be overcomed does not mean it doesn't exist. And no it makes a difference. certain circumstances in ns that would test mental strength may not be met otherwise.
if u want to think so

NS is a good experience but 2 years is too long.
I suggest reform to 20 months or 18 months.
24 months is far too long.

I won't bother explaining to someone who continues to insist on having the mindset of a loser.

No actually i suffered 28mths. (2yrs 4mths)
BMT-enhanced batch only needs to serve 22mths now. Count in leaves and Offs, they only serve 20mths.

The problem is this.....
If NS was 'Shorten' to 18mths for Uni grads..... are Non Uni grads suppose to contuine to do 24mths of NS ![]()
If All S'porean Males are to do only 18mths of NS..... wouldn't the Next group of NS boys (10years from now) be demanding a reduce to 12mths... and the next to 6mths..... then to 3mths..... So when will it be enough ![]()

I think 18 months is the max minimum.
Not too long, not too short.
It would pass by quickly.
They won't feel the drag on their life.

Enough for their supposed OCS course + having experience as an officer a not
Originally posted by eagle:A loser mentality is one like you who like to put the blame on external events. To you, you cannot control your life. You would think practicality is the same as grandeur. Period.
You'll lag behind - but just temporarily.
Depending on each individual, a positive or negative mindset can be adopted.

When NS was 24mths long, so many years ago.... nobody consider it a drag.
But now some wants it to be 18mths only.....
Then later others would consider even 18mths is too long and wants it reduce to 12mths.
And from 12mths to lesser..... so on and so fro.....
I myself served 2.5 years.
My view is that 18 months is the minimum.
oh no. ORD last month, entering uni in august and i cant recall much!!!
to all the naysayers: there is more to education than getting a piece of paper...

I did mine for 6 years..... Yes, I'm was a Reg in the Navy.
My issue isn't with 20mths or 18mths..... but with ppl wishing to keep reducing NS to bare minimum.
Like I said earlier.... NS used to be 30mths long (2.5yrs). Now already reduce to 24mths. Ppl are still unhappy using 'Going to Uni' as a reason to reduce further. Lets said NS from next year on is reduce to 18mths.... do you think this would keep the ppl 'Happy'
After the masses got used to only 18mths of NS.... Would they not want a further reduce, to lets said 12mths
And if this keep going..... wouldn't there be a time when NS is no more
lame la TS when males in NS girls complete 3/4 of their studies in uni also not our problem u kpkb so much for wat?
Even without NS, I would still aim for the age of 28. What I have meant is that NS will not delay my target; I will still be able to earn enough by 28. Even for 26 years old, I have a friend who is planning to get engaged immediately after graduating (25 yrs) and getting married by 26. It is what you plan and want; not because some sissy excuse that NS delayed you. And no, he's not a scholar or anything. It's because he planned way ahead of people, myself included.
I have even a friend, my age, graduating this semster too, who has already $100k networth. His story is definitely amazing.
Fact is, there are many people who have done it; NS did not delay them in their goals and dreams. If they can do it, so can you. But if you think you are delayed, then you are definitely delayed.
