Hello everyone!
Project WiTHIN is an awareness project that seeks to spread awareness about anorexia nervosa, as well as to encourage students, especially teenage girls, to be more confident and comfortable with their own looks and bodies, looking beyond the physical construction of their bodies, and into their mind, heart and soul. Through research, we also realised that family members and friends play an integral role in motivating a teenage girl to value her character over mere exterior traits or characteristics.
We were featured on Youth.SG (Link: http://www.youth.sg/content/view/3442/69/) last year. Also, The Straits Times has published articles detailing our project, on Mind Your Body, 5th September 2007 (Link: http://www.projectthin.com/5Sept2007.jpg/) and The Sunday Times, 28th October 2007 (Link: http://www.projectthin.com/28Oct2007.png/) respectively. Recently, on 14th May 2008, we were featured in Lian He Zao Bao under the ‘Popcorn (Bao Mi Hua)’ section.
Around the world, more and more teenage girls are increasingly desirous of changing their physical appearances. It has been suggested that globalisation has led Singapore teenage girls to inherit Western notions of beauty, as well as the underlying prerequisite: thinness. Evidently, 70% of Singaporean women who took part in a survey by DOVE strongly purported that: “I wish the media did a better job in portraying women of diverse physical characteristics”.
There are three major causes of the lack of awareness of anorexia and self-esteem issues amongst Singaporeans.
Do you agree with us that these are the reasons that are causing the increased incidence of anorexia nervosa in Singapore? What other initiatives do you think we should implement? Share your views with us!

“Perfect, the Way I Am” – The Roadshow
For the very first time, Project WiTHIN is moving our exhibition into the heartlands of Singapore. Having made presentations and displayed our posters in a multitude of locations, including schools, institutions and workshops, we will be displaying our “Beauty: Starve or Strive” posters at our roadshow. Here are the details for this exciting event:
Date: 24th May 2008
Time: 1000h to 2200h
Venue: Tiong Bahru Plaza (outside Tiong Bahru MRT Station)
During the event, we will be distributing postcards and related memorabilia to further our cause. We will also set up a multimedia presentation to let the public know about our project and causes in an interactive manner. Certainly, our volunteers would be stationed there to supply you with more information, should you need any. Sign-up sheets for new volunteers would also be available.
Do drop by on the 24th and join us in this campaign for real beauty!

Oh oh oh isn't this the project that was featured on Lian He Zao Bao on Wednesday? I think I managed to read a little about your project.
The concept sounds quite interesting I think. Took a look at your website and managed to get a rough idea of what you guys have been doing. Though I think the problem isn't going to be solved overnight. This problem is really a tricky one, and needs to be dealt with slowly and consistently. Hope that you guys are ready to keep this going.
Do keep us updated, and good luck! I hope I would be able to drop by on Saturday!
Oh I just recalled. I happen to have a friend who is slightly anorexic. I don't think she's totally fallen into the trap - but what can I do to help her?
Recommend her a psychiatrist.
Bombard her with anti-anorexia propaganda.
Don't work, spread propaganda to confuse her.
Don't work, spread propaganda to distract her.

Introduce her to politics, agitate her with anti-PAP propaganda.
She get so angry with PAP that she forgets all about her anorexia bullshit.
