LKY might not have been laughing at the kids; he was perhaps laughing at CSJ playing the pity card after dragging himself and his family into that situation through his own wilfulness.
Sensitive? No, not really. It's just moral standards which we abide by in ourselves to discern what is evil and good, and to voice out our views when we find that injustice or wickedness has transpired. Sniggering at CSJ is alright, but sniggering at the plight of CSJ's children is declasse and evil.
So you find that CSJ through his wilfulness, dragging himself and his family into that situation funny?
Personally I don't find it funny or amusing.
Perhaps you have the same "humour" like LKY.
It's no laughing matter if someone through his own wilfulness, while speeding in his car, lands himself, his wife and his young children in permanent physical disability.
Would you find a similar case like this funny too?
To each his own, you might have an extremely warped sense of humour like LKY.
The gravity and severity of CSJ's childrens plight does not warrant humour in any perspective, save the devil.
You are entitled to your own brand of humour, Satan has his own brand of humour too.
Kuali Baba,
Personally, if you are an enemy combatant, if I see your young kids playing in the playground, I would not seek to annihilate your children and your family members.
It's ethics, principles and morals, something which LKY lacks after his years as god or devil.

You've been using some poor analogies to exaggerate our Schadenfreude. It's not as if he's the victim of an act of God or a medical emergency.
Like a fly that keeps trying to break through a glass window to the other side, he hasn't learnt to stop trying what doesn't work, i.e. breaking the law and making loose accusations. He doesn't need to do all that. Fine if he wants to be an activist, but those ways aren't going to work here.
He does all that in full conscience (and by golly it makes him as bold and arrogant as LKY), and now he's playing the pity card when he should have been better-prepared. It's this folly that amuses the objective bystander.

Isn't he in a predicament due to his bankruptcy? When someone is in financial distress with a responsibility to take care of his children. I don't any humour in that, irrespective if CSJ is or was a clown set out to amuse the lesser Singaporean.
Get the sequence of facts correct, man in financial distress with responsibility of fatherhood to look after his young kids.
Tell me if you find humour in that?
So if a clown through his folly lands himself in financial distress and a responsibility to take care of his kids. Tell me and everybody here that you would find humour in that?
Please be objective and not blindly side the old man. Give each his merits as it is due.
I'd snigger too.
Because, when I hear that, if I were LKY, I'd think... "If you really really cared about providing for your children, why do you persist?"
If his goals were really as noble as to bring a greater democracy to Singapore, why bring up the children and make himself look victimised? Trying to get people to pity him?
If CSJ really cared about his bankrupt status and providing for his children, he'd back down, and go find somewhere to live his life happily ever after. A feeble attempt to use his children to gain sympathy.
...the dishonorable despot is less han human,,, and as he grows older, the more inhuman he becomes...
...we shall all snigger when he is hooked up to machines in the intensive care unit in the hospital... and when the members of his own family get cancer or suffers a lingering death...

Perhaps you have the same wickedness as him in your mentality.
When CSJ was relating the case about him being a bankrupt and the responsibility of fatherhood. You interpret it as an act to gain sympathy from LKY? Do you think that LKY would give sympathy to his political opponents?
I wouldn't say that CSJ was all about democracy, perhaps he has a personal vendetta against the Lees after being victimised by them. That I wouldn't know, because I don't read mind like you.
Why has CSJ not backed down then so that he could provide for his children? Aren't you contradicting yourself by first hinting that he is not so noble and he has selfish objectives, then stick a foot in your mouth by saying that if he was selfish he should back down and go somewhere, to which he hasn't. So is he noble or selfish?
If it was me behaving in a selfish way, I perhaps would have taken the easy way out, moved to another country to satisfy my family and my self interest, rather than stay in Singapore to be victimised by LKY. Maybe he has a sense of righteousness in him afterall.

You're the one who needs to get the sequence right: Man spouts something he can't adequately defend, man becomes bankrupt, man does it again, man says, "Please think of my family, because I didn't".
You shouldn't side with the mule blindly either (and you missed the obvious sign that I don't support the OAP).

I am not siding the anybody here. You are not being objective by looking at the facts, you are just blindly siding with LKY because you idolise him.
Man walks on the street, trips on a banana peel, lands on his head, bleeds to death. You find it amusing? It might seem funny initially, but the final predicament does not justify any humour, just as CSJ need to look after his children despite his financial distress. A snicker isn't even humour in it's most misunderstood definition, a snicker is to mock at someone in an extremely disrespectful way. Something totally unbecoming of a great leader.
Gimme a break, since when did he say "Please think of my family, because I didn't"?
Do you read minds too? If you don't, then don't introduce nonsense into the discussion.
...and remember that Dr Chee Soon Juan has done nothing so far except exercise his constitutional right to free speech and democratic rights to walk around the country without harassments for after all, it is in the National Pledge, "To build a Democratic Nation...."
Is it any wonder that the "Lee Kuan Yew,when are you going to die?" thread is still going strong?
People despise dishonorable apes....

LOL you're definitely as touchy and as unable to come up with appropriate analogies as I summised. I won't answer your questions there when you obviously don't get that the humour probably isn't about his kids.
Nothing's changed in SC - the denizens see, hear and believe only what they want to. ![]()
Eh think about it this way.
A man walks up to a boxer, punches him. The boxer hits back, but the man says, "Please think of my children!"
If the man had his children as his top priority, he would have been careful about his actions in order to be ABLE to provide for them.
I think you've got your logic messed up.

And so LKY's MO of intimidation works , didn't it ?
Like a man who tells a woman.
Woman if you don't submit to me, I'd punch you up.
Woman defies man.
Man punched her up and snigger at her sorry state.
Man tells woman " See woman, if you'd have just submit to me, you wouldn't get all punched up."
Typical abusive man thinking. You're just like one of them.

So a man becomes a coward when he has children ?
That's some great example you're gonna give your kids.
Yes, make sure you do that.
I'm laughing because the way I see it, some twit called me out into the ring. Throws weak punches at me, and I give him a good thumping.
In the middle of the match, he asks' me to consider his poor family, but doesn't surrender. Most of you who think that LKY is being heartless probably has never gotten into a fight before.
You either ask for mercy after you surrender, or you carry on fighting without regards of how bad you get beaten up.
Asking for mercy in a middle of a fight... what the hell is that?!

If you had listened to the recording objectively, the snigger came directly after CSJ mentioned his children. Not much before and not much after. It's like me slapping you and you crying out in pain 10 seconds later. Look at it objectively, when did the snigger occured?
Like I said, there isn't a perfect analogy to follow this perfectly. But the main idea is still, CSJ final predicament does not justify humour. Moreover like I said, a snigger is not humour, it's more like a mock in a disrespectful way. Kind of like I had the upper hand, you went against me, now you suffer the consequences.
Same can be said about you, your blind exaltation of LKY is extremely admirable, much like the devotion of my pet dogs to me.

Since when did CSJ ask for mercy?
Could you please quote this statement for verification?
Did he unequivocally asked for mercy?
Or are you delving into the art of mind reading again?
We deal with the facts of the case, not conjectures drawn up by your whimsical neuron misfiring.
CSJ's predicament definitely isn't something people should laugh at.
But him bringing it up in a middle of a "fight" with his nemesis makes me wonder what his true intentions are.
Its hard for me to not laugh at the blood bath that ensues a fool walking into a tiger enclosure to taunt it.
I still don't know how can an elaboration about the plight of bankruptcy be construed as a gesture of begging for mercy.

If your English is that bad, maybe you should re-think about posting here.
In SIMPLE english, don't bring up your bankrupt and 3 poor children unless you're ready to throw in the towel and BEG for a way out.
If you're not surrendering, talk so much about your poor children for what?
So, if CSJ surrendered and ASKED to be given a way out for his family, and LKY laughed, I would join in to say that LKY has a very bad sense humor as well!

Those who dares oppose the big man should be prepared to lay down his life ?
Politics is not a street fight, mind you.
There really is no need for LKY to bankrupt his opponents.

...yes, like a rapist ... "hahaha, you should have just agreed to let me fark you, See? You still get raped and in addition, suffer all these injuries..."

Politics is not a street fight, mind you.

It is evil to resort to make opponents bankrupt.
A bankrupt is politically powerless. He cannot garner influence or support from the people who can really make a difference.
Politics is about power, and power is about distribution of wealth. No wealth, no power.
Knowing that LKY is a hard man, he repeatedly charge himself at him, and ended up bankrupt. I've seen for myself how tactless he can be when dealing with people in power. "Eh, Goh! Come Here! I Want to talk to you!"
Sheesh!
