If you think otherwise, please name me a leader or a government who can turn a 3rd world country into a developed nations within 30 years and achieving that without bringing their citizens ito war or riot.
without bringing their citizens ito war or riot.
That, i think was due to supression, not totally becuase all the citizens were all so damn
satisfied and happy.
But yes, i agree LKY is very brilliant.
He is a visionary who is capable to delivering what he said, that is what seperate a doer from a wanker and talker
So by what metric did you use to justify your statement? It better be something worth justifying or you can take your useless pile of poodoo else where.

Any one else could also be the most effective leader in the world without trying by legalistic wrangling of laws to tax, hoard taxes and spend as little of taxes collected as possible keeping the large chunk as surpluses to do what he wants.
Has he created an Acer or Microsoft to provide more jobs or increase the wages of his fellow citizens all these years?
He probably ran down the economy causing it to be so uncompetitive that most of the shops or businesses in any neighborhood are eeking out only a mere existence due to his pushing up rentals, utilities, transportation and all costs without consideration of killing the goose that lays the golden egg.
If one becomes the bully one can be extremely effective too.
with all his recent LIES he spouts, i for one couldn't be bothered with this chap anymore. he can run himself to the ground praising his `god' unconditionally. so, happy `LIESing', LIES.
talk about wanker and talker, this LIES tops it all.
It's already proven he and DeerHunter are the same person, and is definitely a clone of Gazelle, because of the repeat of a statement that only Gazelle made frequently, (and once upon a time, jojobeach), and that such content has not been posted since they have registered.

If I may say, not everyone has got a chance. So its hard to say.
yawn... dishonorable despots with a lying press sexretary....
There is no doubt the price of corruption for bringing singapore to 1st world.
And for that,PAP must fall
Disneyland is a utopic "First World" fantasy land, where third world workers are employed to man the many backstage acts at salaries below that of white and blue collared workers in the same country.
Singapore is a "First World" in the minds o her "Third World" Politicians, whose personal standards of politics are no better then that of Zimbabwe's Robert Mugabe -in respecting his political challengers with total persecutive disdain.
The "Third World" Politicians in Singapore respect Singaporeans in the same manner as Robert Mugabe respect his own Zimbabweans - with the leadership seeing themselves as the only enlightened talents to lead the country, and any citizens daring to claim their political rights subjected to a culture of political persecution.
The "Third World" Politicians will instill and perpetuate this culture of political persecution through direct and indirect methods - all done to keep the Citizens to obediently submit to the "Laws and Orders" prescribed by these "Third World" Politicians.
The "Laws and Orders" are designed to preserve these "Third World" Politicians in their own "First World" environment created by the sweat and blood of the Citizens, whose taxes will fund the "Beyond First World" salaries of these "Third World" Politicians.
Do we need to wonder how Singapore Airline got their inspiration to dream up a catch phrase "Beyond First Class" to capture attention to their "flight of fantasy" on the newly acquired A380 ?
I think TS life revolve ard LKY only.
...the success of Singapore today was a result of the hard work of each and every citizen including the old women now reduced to cleaning tables at hawkers centers reduced to such a state by the policies of greedy despots

And I would like to add that the government would not have been successful without the co operation of so many of the citizens.

General PArk Chun Hee of South Korea, General Roe Tae Woh n General Chun do Hwan, leaders of South Korea n they managed to make South Korea into a
economic powerhouse.
last time yes i respect him.. now emm nah
Take a lok at this article by a Malaysian paper.
... what he's done is just mask over a 3rd world country with the World Class label...
... from what I have been observing, Singaporeans are quite a hardy bunch. While they may not be rioting over stifling and self-serving policies, they are hard at work or excelling in their education towards one common goal/dream - to migrate out of Singapore.
... the time will come where riots can break out, but it will not be the true locals, but the many foreigners who were enticed into becoming a citizens.
... yes, they are effective - towards their own ends and needs that is. Not for the people...

I think for local there is little effect in going for a riot. They finally learnt from HK in which many of them migrate to Canada before the handover to China.
Last but not least, how many foreign professional actually become citizen out of the many PR of this country?

I dont really know much about the Korean history. How old is Korea? In which year did Korea become a first world developed country?
“A Tale of Two Cities: Factor Accumulation and Technical Change in Hong Kong and Singapore.” - MIT economist Alwyn Young link
1) "both capital and (human capital adjusted) labour input have grown considerably faster in Singapore. While technical change has contributed substantially to economic growth in Hong Kong, its contribution to growth in Singapore is next to nil"
2) "Singapore's growth was largely the result of brute-force capital accumlation and that total factor productivity has actually fallen sharply"
3) "even with impalusibly high depreciation rates, Singapore's TFP growth still looked poor"
4) "other economist also suggested that Singapore's government had driven savings and investments to unnecessarily high levels."
5) "Singapore became richer by thrusting its hands ever deeper into its citizen's pockets - through taxes, forced savings and subsidies to multinationals - and throwing money at the problem"
