Just imagine, LKY is so effective that look around one can see so many HDB shops blocked off by merchandise with the fire escape route blocked.
The fire risks caused death to 2 siblings in Hougang last year. Any one can see that these two deaths could have been prevented had there been proper management and enforcements against such fire risks.
Despite alll the set up of SCDF, Major, CEOs, GM and qualified professionals paid peanuts, no one was made answerable in this incident for the total blockage of fire escape path, an offence under the Fire Act. The Managing Agent' contract was also spared and his renewed and not debarred from tender, reprimanded or penalised.
Is this the value of human life here ? Is this what MM Lee called world-class standard ? Now who is complacent? May be you don't pay taxes and you don't care and that is why today we have this type of could'nt-care-less government.

1. PAP is an effective government in Singapore. But effective does not equate considerate and socially acceptable.
2. PAP does not owe what they have to ONLY the people, but also to their own efforts. PAP is the current government because there is no strong enough Opposition Party to challenge PAP. Anyway who have the money and resources to field so many groups of Opposition Members to challenge PAP in elections. SO most people don't get to vote doesn't mean votes go to PAP.
3. But again, if a government is not confident of its stability in the next 10 years, will the government make plans for the next 10 years? Probably their main concerns will then be on how to draw more votes in the 5-years term. If this happens, how will the development of Singapore be?
4. Here we are, stranded with a reality that we must accept what is ahead of us. There is always two side of a coin, but to say that PAP is the MOST effective government, I seriously think you're not in a perfect state of mind to stay in our current society..
