i was in taipei earlier this year. yes, i find taiwanese, esp in taipei and the younger gen, are overwhelmingly influenced by the japanese. the good of that are the basic courtesy extended to all, social graces and a generally tolerant society. the downside is the `apeing' of the japanese youth culture. i think it is too overwhelming.
singapore societal maturity, however, is not cultivated since independence. blame it on ourselves. even in hk, where the pace of life is faster than here, people queue up for buses. the irony of things here, singaporeans are so regimented in so many things so much so that in areas where a little exercise of self-discipline and courtesy, there isn't any. uniquely singapore, you bet.

we Singaporeans can queue up for the best hawker food, for bakkwa during CNY, for NDP tickets when they were still just passing them out, for free laptops, for hello kitties, for new condos, for primary school places ......
but can't queue up for the MRT ? .....

your behaviour doesn't reflect on the PAP.. it only reflects on yourself and your fellow singaporeans....
It's like wanting Singapore to fail under the PAP so that you can say i told you so... you don't realise that if it really happens, you are the one who is going to suffer...
anyway, instead of asking why can't we be like that, why not ask your self, can you be like that?? so even if everyone behaves in a kiasu manner, at least you have made your point and stuck to what you think is right...

sometimes i feel Taiwanese are too free to be ruled. A "Fine" country like Singapore is not bad actually. Fine always is the best way to keep a good life to people. See...when u turn on the tv, there are no news about robbery, murder for money or love or even no reason... Everytime, we turn on the news channel, it seems like to watch movies...

Being to Taipei, HuaLian, Green Island of Taidong, Keding/Hengchun.Din manage to visit Tainan,Kaosiong, Taizhong, A li Shan etc although i hope there is a chance in the future.
Taiwan is a nice country.

i couldnt google any statistics, but i dont think Taiwan has a higher crime rate. It is the free and open media that sensationalise the news of murder and robbery. Japan for example has one of the lowest crime rate in the world but if you read their daily news, their media has a perversion for reporting rape, murder and robbery on a daily basis.

Well, in singapore, if you really queue up for bus and MRT during peak hours, you may not even be able to get in. If you really want to learn from them, we will have to send out buses and MRTs at a higher frequency so that the bus and MRT will not be so packed and there will be no need to push and rush.

Its to make the ruling party look competent. No country's newspaper takes such a great interest in reporting about bad things about their neighbours like Singapore. Recently, Hong Kong made a policy mistake in implementing the waiving of the maid levy and our local State times was so eager to report it. But when our neighbours are better than us, they conveniently forget to report it. I think the State Media should report good things about our neighbours instead of only bad things so that Singaporeans/PAP can learn from them too.

I dont give a damn anymore,i act like an anti-PAP propaganda machine,whenever there is a chance to humiliate PAP infront of foreigners,whether it is spreading bad remarks about them,act rude n then tell foreigners this is what PAP teach me etc...I will simply do that,LOL!!!!
