....an [b]Indepedent Republic of Singapore ?
This comes to my mind as I was trying to cumulate the pattern
of Malaysian government and its media's behavoiur in the last
12 months.
Do Malaysian generally still hold that perception that the Republic
should belong to them or do they believe in the Singapore system ?

Hah! wad s'porean in their right mind would illegally immigrate to tht lousy country? How would they like it if we fine them for spoiling the atmosphere when they come to s'pore with 7 ppl in one proton saga?Originally posted by BillyBong:They're already "claiming" another island to the west of Johor and Singapore....an island that Malaysia claims is "closer" to Singapore after our land reclamation. (there they go again)
Malaysian Marine Police have even claimed that "Singaporeans" have frequented the island. And yeah...interviews with the johorians showed that the Malaysian ppl want their Marine Police to arrest any Singaporean who lands on that island and charge them as an illegal immigrant. A so-called tit-for-tat spat as with the Preda Branca dispute.
Ironically, this particular island also has a "lighthouse" (more like a beacon actually) built and managed by the Marine authorities.
Deja vu anyone?![]()
the funny thing is that spore govt has never shown any interest in claiming that island in the first place......... we never dispute the island belongs to msia.....to make an issue out of no issue is a trademark of the msian govt......Originally posted by BillyBong:They're already "claiming" another island to the west of Johor and Singapore....an island that Malaysia claims is "closer" to Singapore after our land reclamation. yah that nusantara ideology and identity as the backdrop is probably one cause of singapore's problems with malaysia.Originally posted by Atobe:__________________________________________________
It has always been the dream of Malay Nationalist to form a Malay Archipelago that spans from Peninsula Malaya, Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, Kalimantan, Sumatra, Java, Molukus, Madura, Mindanao, Sulu Islands.
This was also the dream of the First Indonesian President Sukarno, whose dream was thwarted by Tunku Abdul Rahman who formed Malaysia - incorporating Peninsula Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak, and Sabah (which is disputed territory with the Philippines to this day).
This dream was taken over by the Radical Muslims forming the J.I.Group that has similar goal of forming a Pan-Islamic Archipelago that cover the same swab of territory.
Now that the J.I.Group has its dreams doused by active intervention from all the Governments in this region, the Malay Supremo in Malaysia has gone back into the Driver's seat, in pursuit of this dream of re-taking Singapore.
Like the Indonesian peasants on Batam Island, who protested that their land was sold at a poor price twenty years ago - (in a deal that was done on an unfair terms) - hence requiring justice and corrective compensation in view of present value of the land use as the Batam Industrial Zone.
Does this not sound familiar as with the water issue ?
Perhaps it is a trait that is typical of the simple minded peasants of Malay ancestory.
It will not be surprising to hear in the near future, that the Sultan of Johor was misguided by the British, who had inadequately compensated the Sultan for the use of the Singapore Island as a Port; and that the island was only leased with no intention of it being led into perpetuity.
That is my worry too. Bu t not so about their "simple minded presants" but more to do with their educated ruling class and trend towards Islamisation based on the ME's militant model. Dr Mathathir decades old affimative actions in Malaysia's NEP has helped the country much, but his use of Islam to promote pro-bumi and Malayness had actually backfired as claimed in a recent AWSJ article.Originally posted by Atobe:__________________________________________________
