SINGAPORE: Singaporeans should support a new political party if the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) is no longer the best vehicle to take the country forward, said Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo.
Mr Yeo was speaking to students at a dialogue session at the Singapore Polytechnic on Friday.
They discussed issues such as inducting talent into politics and how the ruling party aims to win the votes of younger Singaporeans.
On that, Mr Yeo said the people must be clear about what they hope to see in the future, before they decide on which party to support.
The foreign minister was also asked if the PAP is confident of winning back the opposition—held ward of Hougang in the next election.
Mr Yeo answered: "We should be quietly confident, but never take the voters for granted, and to work hard to serve them.
"The PAP must always have that spirit to want to serve the people of Hougang, believing that we can do better for them if we are in charge. That must always be our spirit, but of course, it’s for the people there to decide."

Why so desperate to win HOugang?
Singaporeans should support a new political party if the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) is no longer the best vehicle to take the country forward, said Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo. --- I am afraid to say that majority of the Singaporeans have lost trust in the PAP. We are tired of having a self serving party to rule Singapore. The best is yet to be. There are younger Singaporeans who know that PAP is not having the best interest of the Singaporeans at heart. Many don't have intention to stay here for they have no trust in the present gahmen.
with our political climate so harsh how could alternative parties develope properly?
they just wan to attract young voters la
Pay them each afew millions a year, $15 millions for a 5 year term, yet they cannot keep inflation in check, cannot keep medical cost from increasing. The only thing they know how to do is, increase their own salary.
Flagrantly throwing Singaporeans hard earned money into failed investments overseas.
M13, to be fair, the investments part can be taken out.
Rising inflation can still be probably explained away. So can medical costs.
What is most unacceptable is that they say they have to raise taxes here and there, fares here and there, in a period of economic uncertainty, and when the unemployment rate is slowly rising. 1.7% to 2.0% in March and 2.3% recently. Low, but steadily increasing...
sure..... when PAP drop all those stupid election rules lor...see how they will lose after that...

Do you think if the Opposition win all the seats one day, they will drop all those rules too?

If Opposition wins the Parliament, sooner or later, they will come out with rules and regulation to safeguard their position, just like what PAP are doing now.

I also think so.
Which is why I think there's not much reason or basis in condemning PAP for what they are really doing....
I know some forumers will disagree with me on this point...

We reckon the truth BUT it doesnt mean we condone such act.
It is just the nature of most human beings to hold onto their power.

seriously... if pap is really doing a bad job.. u tink so many people get the chance go kpkb here meh?
if they havnt exploited info com tech. u think our internet access can get so cheap to let those people wif nuttin to do to keep opposing just because they feel like during their free time?
many people often take things for granted. forgetting about the good that pap have done and is doing and nitpicking on those small bits.
think about it. if the govt havnt taxed us. our street lights would still have wires hanging arnd them, we would still have many unsafe drains. we would have totally no barriors to protect us from clifts and such. so many more things..
I am waiting for a political TSUNAMI in singapore. Sweep from Jurong to Changi.
Let them know they aren't fit to be pay so high.
We should use our vote to pull them down. DOWN man. I tired of PAP.

damn true
Hahaha? Vote other parties? When our votes can be traced? Oh please who wants to suddenly find that their everyday life suddenly become beset with "bad luck"?
Despots and their propaganda.... hope that the young generation are not silliporeans with the internet exposing the propaganda of dishonorable people.
To survive within a system, one has no choice but to play by its rules, even if it goes against one's principles.
Those young people who have the principles against this kind of thing, would have either upped and left to maintain their moral dignity, or have been browbeaten into submission for the sake of survival.
They can support the martyrs...
Who are the martyrs?
Ever considered that some, perhaps even MOST of those who have left, are looking down at the system with utter contempt, and are more than glad to let it rot towards its inevitable doom?
The dishonorable despot that had no shame and pass the nation's money for his son and daughter in law to play with, set the tone for the destruction of the country with the support of the traitorous as- sniffing animals.
Even the dishonorable single party chinese don't do that and you can see the previous generation leaders passing on the baton to the best of the next generation. It is not as ideal as passing on the baton to the best of any party but they are still not as shameless as the dying despots here.
And what difference does supporting him make?
Not like Singapore gives a damn what people who've left to maintain their moral dignity think. They've branded them all as "quitters"
Supporting him would show the despots that their propaganda is not working and they would have to make some real changes. Dishonorable despots would rather see the nation go to the dogs than to lose power and only the people can ensure that it does not happen.
Unfortunately, the people have a kiasu spirit developed in them by the despots for their own selfish gains and that is what ultimately will bring down this country. In this case, the more kiasu you are, the more what you fear would come true.
I dunno. Like I said, many of us prefer to see the country rot and crumble so that a phoenix might rise from the ashes.
