The Singapore government raised the prices little by little so drivers do not feel the pinch as hard. People still got on with life, unlike some dumb neighbouring country where the government pledged to offer subsidies for the people after caving in to demands. People relied on the government for everything. When their demands were not met, they went on strike. Pretty much explains the stability in tat country.
