Tons of us is unhappy with the PAP, with so many down with PAP threads in this forum.
Sure, you don't like the PAP as a government, fine by me. However I want to ask everyone here a question ( and members of the opposition party if they visit the forums)
Are you/ they READY to lead singapore in the event that the opposition pulls an unexpected upset?
Is everyone in the opposition, every members ready to face the possibility that they might be the minsters? Even those smaller members who isn't the party head and etc?
The PAP seems to me that they are prepared for the role of a opposition, but is the opposition READY to BE the government every day?
Are you ready to make do with certain policies that might not be popular, but is needed for the country?
Are you ready to be hated by the public for your role as a government?
Are you ready to do a better job leading singapore than the PAP, are you ready to lead singapore BETTER than OTHER party as well?
Are you ready to be the prime minster? The minster of defence, the minster of finance, minster of education?
Are you able to ensure that singapore can be well off even if a global recession ( or in the worse case scenario, a global depression) ?
Are you able to ensure that you can manage singapore well enough even if you are faced with matters BEYOND your control?
Last of all, are you ready to be the government?
The answer to your question is no, for now.
However, I am inclined to believe that things will change in the near future.
have faith ![]()
when u are at the bottom, the only way is up.
with PAP, we are at the bottom.

Err with politics, there is no bottom to speak of.
Look at china during the 20s-70s. Just when you think you have hit rock bottom, you went down even further.
NOTHING is secure in life...how can you say it is at the bottom where we have nothing else to compare to?
Everything is simply speculation in regards to the performance of the government. Just because the democratic system to THINK that the next government can be better, it does not mean it is necessarily better.
We are simply predicting the future..there is a safe bet and a unsafe bet. But it is STILL a bet.
We can never be sure of the future unless we experience it ourselves.
What we can be sure of, is a person will to do so. That is the only thing that we can be sure and see it for ourselves.
i duno abt politics, but i know PAP.. with them ERP is only going to increase..
right from the FIRST day the FIRST gantry was set up the price only go up..
assume opposition comes in.. what can be worse?
like Poh Ah Pak said..
even a dog contest against PAP, i have better faith in the dog.. coz the dog wun raise the ERP and public transport fares..
"Are you ready to be hated by the public for your role as a government?"
In true democracies, governments hated by the public do not usually get the votes of the people in election. Of course not so in authoritarian Singapore.
"Are you able to ensure that singapore can be well off even if a global recession ( or in the worse case scenario, a global depression)?"
Is/Was Singapore well off even in a global recession? In the Asian financial crisis 10 years ago, I'm not so sure that Singapore rode it well though the PAP claimed they did.
"Are you able to ensure that you can manage singapore well enough even if you are faced with matters BEYOND your control?"
Can the PAP govt do that???
a lot has been said about the MIW... most of it is unflattering...
hell, they're a bunch of money-grubbing, ivory tower-dwelling, reality-ignoring mercenaries...
that is probably not going to change anytime soon because people tend to look after their own...
we need a change..
there are signs.. we have a couple of opposition MPs who do not look for razzle-dazzle, do not seek attention, do not really care about publicity, going around, doing their work, serving the people...
one of them is pretty old now.. probably his last legs... surprising after being betrayed so badly he's still around.. got to give him his dues... he's served his country well..
we must separate the wheat from the chaff...
and there is so much chaff in the baskets of the opposition...
revolutionaries learnt the hard way: it is so easy to topple a regime and so damned hard to build and run a country...
the country is much more important than any trivial bullshit like loyalty to one party, to one person.. they pale into insignificance when we put them beside Our Country...
vote with your head as well as your heart...
LOL! So ERP is all good in your opinion?

Ya, better than tiananmen of china, there they collect $20 from me before i can go thru into the forbidden city. Here only $3 most, why make so much noises??
Was the PAP ready to lead from day 1?
Changes stir things up and it'll take a bit of sacrifice before everything settles down again.
The way I see it, things are bad now. You think all the shiney surfaces covering the rot that is Singapore is good? I'd rather a new government comes in now and tears away the covers first to expose the rot, then clean up the rot.
Social slavery due to the housing exploitation, imaginative taxes, constant sacrificing of the citizens while the leaders pat themselves on their backs and constantly reward each other while ignoring th citizens troubles.
Throwing an occasional peanut or two at us while they are taking peanut farms for themselves.

so, some of our opposition are ready to lead us if they have the passion for it and they get our support. yes, i am ready for change, and expect the hiccups associated with political transition.
We got opposition meh??? why very quiet one leh?? For the whole 4 to 5 years, what are the opposition doing???
Aiya during the early days, all our grandfathers and grandmothers also green green one, very easy to brainwash them. Nowaday different lor, me very clever one ok. Govt no clean my front road and collect my rubbish, me no vote for them.

seriously i dun see pap willing to be oppo in anyway..and yes i m ready to take over the mantle..but the qns is, is pap ready to h/o it to me?
the erp issue, its good in the sense that hopefully more people will not buy cars..while erp is surely created to generate more income, the by product of it is lesser car.now if only road tax n coe increase.

The Ironic of it is that COE is decreasing, so is reduction in road tax, i hv doubt in the govt reducing car population here, they decreased COE and Road tax to lure people in, then erect ERP and increase prices to earn from it. Surely they would had balanced that ERP generate more income than COE and Road tax which is more or less constant figure. And if the by product is lesser car, how on earth are they going to earn more...think probably hor. PAP not stupid ya, they got scholars aplenty there, the think tank committee are not for fun.
If you can separate the government from the party then without the the PAP you're left with a fine civil service and set of public institutions. It's not as if the new ruling party would have to rebuild them.
However, this is a moot point, as the opposition is not going to get in overnight. The opposition will either reach power through a gradual process, whereby there will be time to bring in talent, or a new goverment will be borne from a major split in the existing parties. In that case existing talent and ministers can play a role in a new government.
All this is not to negate the value of the opposition should they never get into power; the value of an alternate voice for the people, and checks and balances on the ruling party.
their time is up lah. they failed to bring the price of oil, rice & other stuff down, the ERP is sh|t, it not helping the traffic at all & they keep increasing it.
if the next 5 years, things going as bad as it is now, i dun mind betting on the other side...
anyway...only 2 outcome..better or worst...so it's a 50-50 outcome
I trust Opposition, look at potong pasir and hougang they are happy with opposition. Are potong pasir & hougang flat the same as JB flat? They take good care even never get so much support from government, they survive... We vote opposition and the rest up to them who to be prime minister, The minister of defence, the minister of finance, minister of education, cause now also not we the one who vote for them to get what position... Singapore belongs to the people, not personal. Singapore economy is fast changing why because they want to be the 1 world country so the people will suffer arr. oil increase, food increase, this increase that increase what singapore government do, let them increase. later news, ohh we will help who needy.
