yes, i agree.... which is probably why the other neighbouring countries do not really have a stable society and progress as ours....i do not see it is good or no good, or fair or not fair, but that it was necessary.
however, i feel that the "control" is lessen, and perhaps what is being done, is not so much "control" but "watch over".....

i know someone (a scholar) who bitches about PAP, but was invited to join the party because of his academic record.

Sing praises of PAP? Yes and no. I know of doctors in govt hospitals who sing praises to bootlick. LIke Uniquely Singapore, sounds like You need Lee, Singapore. Kena sai really. These people are one sack track.
Sing praise to LKY's past contribution sounds reasonable. Sing praise to LKY's nuisance is bootlicking, not acceptable to me.
PAP not only get one scholar to join them they get so many scholars to join them. But how effective are these scholars, ha ha ha, a joke. Is that one scholar you mentioned balakrishnan vivian? vivian looks sissy.

Answer is state propaganda. Private media can be censored by the govt authority whereas there is no censorship to the state propaganda.
