Great idea right?
i will think fall down to be something like losing money on business ventures.
i will think broken bones to be something like major riots resulting in death.

How about this... you as a parent don't want your Children to get hurt... but what if your Child is a fragile thing... what if 1 major fall will kill him...
What would be your actions...?

Let's keep the kids in a box.

Don't be stupid... You know your Child is fragile yet you want him to be independent, what do you do?
You teach them how to tread carefully on the right path...See the mistakes other countries has made and don't repeat it... See the success of other country and follow it... Repeating the mistakes of other country is the one of the stupidest thing you can do... Think thoroughly before making the next step...
I won't even bother replying.![]()

I have.
That is why I support mass peaceful protest.

Don't see a single reason why not.

Fyi... the Tibet riot started out as a peaceful protest...
To think about it makes me wonder why there is a fare hike when oil prices is going down?...any justifications?
Originally posted by MohamedF:Fyi... the Tibet riot started out as a peaceful protest...
Is that a fact?
Let's assume that it's true. Protests that threaten 'territorial unity' of China are illegal, even if they are peaceful...and China is effectively a single-party state.

Damages can go up to tenths of billions... faith in Singapore security system shaken among the MNCs...
These has happend to cities b4 but because they are a big country, one city on riot can be repaired by the other cities the country have... but we only have one city... that's it, nothing more... you gamble with it and its lost...
Maybe I've over exageratted that it will cause the end of Singapore... but can you imagine the amount of suffering the riot and post riot going to bring to Singapore...?
Singapore where got 100,000 people go around rioting one? Unless you hire them lah. Stop boasting over those un-substantiate anticipation of yours la. People here talking about voicing out opinions, peaceful riots, you're the only one insisting that it will lead to riot etc.
Why?
You like riot is it?

Hmm I guess only civilised, well-manner and real thinking person will understand what I have meant.
Some folks are just ridden with paranoia. ![]()
I think the event is led by the desire to show displeasure to the government. And it happen so that this bus fare hike comes into the scene and it becomes an issue blown up with malicious intent to exploit on the issue and stage the first step towards an anti-government movement.
In my opinion, the movement is made because the members wanted to show their displeasure towards the 'government for implementing unpopular measures'.
Mirrored by the trade unions in the west, many of these trade unions went on strike to get their message across. Unknowingly there are selfish higher agendas creeping within the ranks of the union leaders.
What I think is that the online citizen does not have the intention of dealing with the problem. But rather to 'show displeasure' to the government for excluding their rights to policy making.
The public transport industry becomes a scapegoat for their twisted agenda.

I think you failed to realise the fact that public transport companies are profit oriented organisations. Making a neat profit explains their existance. However as public transport is a service which all classes of citizens use. Therefore they are bonded by the need to address the needs of the poor.
I have seen many hitting on the fare hike. But why is there no one coming forth to praise them about the money they donated to various government bodies to be distributed to the genuine poor to cushion the marginal increase of the fare?
We should look at things from both sides of the coin.

I think a riot is not even remotely possible.
But I feel that many people are misled therefore coming to such uncalled for resentment towards the PTC.

this i agree. if people really want to solve this hike issue, go and file for petition. get 200,000 singaporeans and ask them to sign a petition; file it to the Prime Minister's office, send a copy to Straits Times or even overseas newspaper. make it a big "news" and see where it leads to.
i don't believe SBS will not "hear" your petition if you have 200,000 strong support. if 200,000 not enough, get 1,000,000. we have 4.5 million population here.

If public transport companies are profit oriented, it's time to return to public ownership.

Well... I guess you don't understand the history of the bus companies and how they were formed. By forcing them to go to public ownership is as good as robbing via a public mob in an educated way.

But there will always be gullible people who allow themselves to be towed according to the wishes of the manipulator.
riot is the only way out! hope there is a mass attack at sbst hq.
