I suggest that maybe stay out of processed foods for 3 months. Even if you are not going to feel sick immediately who knows the long term health effect of exposing to Melamine.
SG govt does not have any room to stand up against China fear of trade retaliation.
hmm, everything is processed isn't it..
ya.. china don't sell us rice, we gg already.

not so much of grains as it is politically incorrect to hold up food. but all the investments made by SG in China could be freeze or business does not award to SG companies....intentionally cause delay etc.....i think this will continue to be a tornny issued for SG as we are now linch.

Si - lang cracker... eat already sure steam potato
Most of the content of the melamine is actually not harmful to healh except if consumed in large quantities and repeatedly, consistently, for a lifetime. This is excluding the Sanlu milk powder, which seem more negative and contain more melamine, and especially harmful for young children.
There is not much to say or comment about this, I hope AVA can perform more checks in future so there wont be similar cases or wait until a news to break out first.

Meat Pao You are so full of crap...You have no idea but simply follow SG govt of containment....Do you seriously know what is melamine......a form of plastics. You walk into any office in Raffle place and you see all the office desk and table. most of them are Melamine work top because it provide a very nice shine worksurface. Assuming you Feed that to your children.....
If you want to harm your own body that is your personal choice. Long Term exposure of Melamine to liver is unknown. So stop encouraging people to eat something that is harmful.
If you don;t agreed at least do not mislead public to ignore the warning, Than you are no better than manufacture who add melamine to milk powder. (I'll bet those folks think the same as you did)

What is your feeling and thoughts after reading? Seriously, how can the authorities cover up the news or the fact that milk powder is tainted and ending with it, DEATH of 4 young lives till date! How can China now "repay" the lives of those affected? What is more important? Lives or Olympics? Obviously, to China authorities & government bodies, Olympics is more important.
How can we trust China government bodies? Anyone forgotten how China cover up about SARS? And at time, didn't they say the same lines about dealing with the matter & restore confidence... etc etc...? Then why this kind of health issues are always been announced when the event become so big & ugly? Let me refresh you all again. Read: http://www.time.com/time/asia/covers/501030421/story.html

The fact is melamine should NEVER exist in food, which is why even AVA never thought of needing to test for it in the first place.
Although a healthy body can be able take a small amount of toxic, what if the consumer is suffering from other health problem or less healthy (like old people, small children, etc)?

The tons of chemicals that no one expects to be in our food. Should AVA then take a back seat and ASSUME they will not be in the food we eat?
Mr Mah says it is impractical to test everything. I agree but shouldn't milk be considered a basic necessity? After all those emphasize on baby making, we're not even interested in ensuring that the product we use, the food meant for babies are safe??
Mr Mah should be fired! I'm so getting tired of PAP's incompetence and LHL extremely high tolerance for failures. He may think that 66.6% is good enough for election but 66.6% is a near half-f*ck job for other things like security and safety.
There was a saying that the tainted milk is not just because of melamine, but other harmful ingredients that the authority don't want to disclose it. A food grade melanine is more expensive, they could have used some kind of contaminated melanine.

Once Money in the pocket, these business folk just careless about eh consequences of the product. I wonder if they ever learn about ethical managment or not??
WTO can vote to ban china product, the world actually dun need china to survive, according to my grandma as what we did 20 years ago, everything was better, in term of products, health and services, the quality was much better, no food problem, better car engines, better social cohesion.

singaporeans, how smart do you think you are?
let me test you.
how proud are you?
let me test you.
what do you think:
1. are all foods proactively being examined, checked for contamination? how about all baby foods? If not every batch of imports, what does this imply? How to spot melamine before it reaches your baby's stomach? After the fact or prevention? Proactive or Reactive?
2. In other countries, their servants. How much is their 'market value'? what if their market value world record? What then should the Expectation be? Is it fair to expect 1 dollar for 1 dollar compensated? Do you dare to set high Expectations?
Again, Pro-Active or Re-Active?

ah...
proactive
let's say got police patrol the street. he walk around and decide to randomly scan your IC, you than will kao bei kao bu, say that police should be go catch thief, not disturb you, who is a good citizen.
reactive
let's say the police is on stand by. suddenly got 999 call, say neighbour noisy. the police go down, and the offending neighbour will kai bei kao bu and say the police should be catching thief and robbers, not do this kind of minor minor thingie.
the conclusion is that both manner will inconvenience people and the authority will gana kao bei kao bu.
was just wondering if China learned anything from this milk issued.
HOHHOT, China (AFP) — China on Tuesday declined to release updated figures revealing just how many children have been affected by the tainted milk scandal, as it insisted it was working hard to boost confidence.
The health ministry said it had new statistics showing how many babies were believed to have been left ill by the crisis, but did not release the data and gave no indication of if or when it would made the latest information public.
"We've not released the latest number of cases because it is not an infectious disease, so it's not absolutely necessary for us to announce it to the public," a health ministry spokesman told AFP.
Previous official figures said milk powder tainted with the chemical melamine had claimed the lives of four children and made a further 53,000 ill.
Melamine, used to produce plastic, can make watered-down milk appear richer in protein than it really is.
三鹿 announced bankruptcy.
the babies are the innocent victims.
as if those people seriously care about babies.
