and how do you intend to use ur mortar/ tank/ wadever? almost every inch of singapore is covered with these HDB flat, where soldiers lurks. and, how many flats can u level? there are so many out there. even piles of rubble may prove hazardous to you, where they will still serve as effective hiding places.
actually, it is kind of logical. in many of the modern urban wars, it is quite hard to take down a city full of hostile forces, not least one as urbanized as singapore.
look, in georgia, the rusians came out of nowhere.
The only major difference i find in training in high rise/low rise buildings is stamina.
There are so many kinds of corridors/windows/staircases (enclosed/spiral/etc)doors(2 door/locked/sliding) in a single building alone, why think so much? Everyone knows in urban combat the advantage lies with those who were there first, dug in. To me on the ground, i don't really care so much, just do my drills properly and try not to 'die' stupidly, that's all.
Shortening NS depends on a variety of factors. The assumptions made by the SDP piece were not stated, other than to benchmark against other countries.
What many people take for granted these days is the transparent impact an armed forces has on political leverage and deterence. Lessons of the indonesian confrontation must not be forgotten.
On the other hand, restructuring the system to train our men in 1 year is not entirely a pipedream, as some forumites claim. But it comes with certain pre-conditions.
1. NSFs cannot attain a commissioned rank for a 1-yr stint.
2. Emphasis must shift to technology - that means tossing awaing obsolete doctrines like breaching drills with a bangolore.
3. A general training term should focus on the following
a. BMT
b. specialised weapons training
c. section training
d. platoon training
e. company training
d. battalion training
e. ATEC
Preferably in that order.
Skip nonessential programs such as NDP preparations. Overseas training can also be shunned to cut down on logistics and time.

well, this guy here says cut down on NDP, as it disrupts training, so i was thinking that these two guys should talk.
Doesn't matter to me. The last ndp i was involved in was in 2004, and i don't think my current unit will ever be involved, so i don't really care about this.

not true
I did it before in 2004, weekdays, preparing the fields for sec sch students to prance around by hammering square wooden boards into the field. Have to prepare too by painting and sawing large wooden boards into square shapes during all the weekdays as well
ok. so NDP is not a problem.

oh, new info. but that guy say bluff me no have money...and also said knn too.
Actually, to be objective, I didn't fully mind the doing up of the fields although many people complained. For a few reasons
1) Lots of physical labour => helped train a bit physically as well :D
2) Got a good tan, although I'm the type that is very hard to get really tanned
only thing is, have to wear vest slack to go to the field, so only the exposed areas are really tanned... The cover up parts not so :(

"Errr...dude. Soldiers involved in NDP still carry on with normal training...with NDP rehearsals occupying the weekends."
That was my exact post. Which part of it is wrong, please tell me? Was i referring to preparations? No.

You tried wearing singlet in the field for sun tan?
I've seen my platoon mates doing it, quite funny afterwards. ![]()

apparently, eagle was involved in NDP. and his normal training was disrupted.
i can't judge who is right, but the words of you 2 contradict each other. so discuss with each other, not with me.
let me make it easier for you. Eagle was involved in set-up, i was in rehearsals.

oh, sorry, I saw the "Soldiers involved in NDP still carry on with normal training." i assumed involved means involved in all categories. terribly sorry to have misinterpreted, when it was clear that you meant the rehearsals, and not anything else when you say involved. thanks for making it easier for me. In that case, there was nothing wrong with your statement.
now, since, NDP involvement will not affect the NSF, it would not be a factor in the reduction to the 1 year NS plan, is it?

Okay. My fault for not being specific. But NDP doesn't mean we "take a break" from normal training.

Exactly, NDP is part of NS training, we Brownies will also support the NS boys by giving them water and helping to carry them out of the parade if they fainted.

what again? I already say my fault what. yes, you are right, you and eagle both never take a break from training at all. you probably never get a single day off for your efforts to take breaks from training to.
yeah yeah, rub it in, why don't ya? NDP is not a 'break' from normal training, more like a diversion. And of course we get off for NDP, it's not like we work shifts and get to go home every 1/2 days

Army got medics, don't need brown-nosers, i mean, brownies to help
