Is it ? I got the impression Majority ok about their pay as they deserve to earn the highest in the entire, absolutely entire planet?
Look at the last referendum. What did the Majority responded? I thought it was a strong mandate. Without this Majority where got mandate?
in hongkong, the regulator get the power service companys to revise their tariff lower by 3%, the citizens still say its not justifiable for the steep fall in oil prices..
yet in singapore, our garbermnt out to maximum their profit increase the electricity by 21% and ppl here are still keeping mum abt it.. seems like singaporeans r so much richer than hk citizens and its much easier to run a country like spore where everyone jus suffer in silence and dun dare to voice out..
well, when a toddler start his/her education since day 1 in spore, they r taught to obey the ruling party and keep their mouth shut and follow..
we r grooming future followers instead of leaders.. leaders are people that will stand to their point and fight for their rights..
well hardly see this in this tiny island.
The forward pricing mechanis of Singapore Powers guarantees profit regardless of whatever amount they pay for their purchase. I'm sure they can afford a discount to their fellow Singaporeans given that they were awarded monopoly. It would be improbable though...
Since we cannot protest because Singapore is a shadow communist state; we can only remind ourselves and hope that they keep to their words and drastically revise down the rates come December (given the large magnitude that oil has fallen)..
Temasek sold Singapore's power stations to foreign investors, instead of price coming down the price shot up 22%. Tell me people have the Lees, PAP and Temasek commited treason to Singaporeans?
in fourth reich opinion, selling energy company is quite common in many developed nations. such as Australia. But the only difference is that in these countries, running it is not as profitable as in Singapore. the reason they could be giving is because of the forward energy pricing, better management to lower cost, efficiency and $%$^.
Heil Hitler!!!
What would you pay if you used exactly the same electricity (500 kwh) in Hong Kong and Singapore?
Hong Kong:
First 150 kwh: (150 kwh) x (HKD 0.959) x (Ex-Rate 0.19055) = SGD 27.41
Next 150 kwh: (150 kwh) x (HKD 1.059) x (Ex-Rate 0.19055) = SGD 30. 27
Next 200 kwh: (200 kwh) x (HKD 1.157) x (Ex-Rate 0.19055) = SGD 44.09
Total ------------------------------------------------------------------ = SGD 101.77
Ex-Rate: Exchange Rate
Singapore:
500 kwh: (500 kwh) x (SGD 0.3045) = SGD 152.25
GST 7% ---------------------------------- = SGD 10.66
Total ------------------------------------- = SGD 162.91
.
.
SGD 101.77 is the amount Singaporeans should be paying for 500 kwh usage in a free market economy, instead Singaporeans are paying SGD 162.91 inflated by the government in the form of indirect taxes probably to recover from losses in overseas investments. A stark difference of 60% between a free market economy and Temasek's (P4P) Singapore Power.

I'n not good in calculations.
I tried to save but everytime I did saved on my bills, our Gov shoot up the bills, wiping off my past effort.
It's like two steps fowards, three steps back...
So will our bills go down with the price of oil dropping too?
Singapore has a population of around 4.84 million, say with 5 members to a household, there would be 968,000 households.
Say each use a modest 500 kwh.
For the three months it would rake in an extra:
SG$ 61.14 x 968,000 x 3 months = SG$ 177,550,560
We haven't even factored in the commercial aspects.
Singapore Power generated 37,838 gwh last year.

It's also the same case with property tax, everytime they decrease the tax rates, but everytime I ended up paying more. When they lower the tax rates, they increase the Net Annual Value, that's why in the end always end up paying more.
Price will come down in another 3 months, after they have profitted the $178 million first. ![]()
Last time there is this advert about New Zealand having more cows than Singapore, therefore more milk. But we definitely have more sheeps than any other country, else where would the P4P government fleece the wool from? ![]()

Save your breadths.
People ultimately accept hikes. So far I have not known of a hike that the people have not accepted, based on 43 years of historical EVIDENCE.
Whatever is the hike from today onwards, may be school bus or other things,
I do not think any of you can deny that the people will ultimately accept ALL and EVERY hike, whatever that may be. Again, just my genius perspectives based on historical evidence.
Who can prove me wrong?
Observations from the past few weeks have led me to conclude that Hong Kong's government is far more superior than our's. Given that difference in salary that we pay our ministers, I am thoroughly convinced that our Government is a waste.
I've been saying that our government needs to provide bank deposits guarantee and they've just realized they need to do so.. because money is moving out of Singapore to overseas..
Here's my next suggestion to the governement - free up lending money and help SME business with their debt. Why? Because if not, we're going to see more commercial defaults which will eventually lead to unemployment.
Let's set a clock and see how long our smart scholarly economist will realize this and how soon will our government come to realization that they have to do this.
Actually, many people I believe do not accept the hikes.
Just that they are afraid to go out there and protest.
As for me, I'm afraid of the Gov, so I hide behind in a forum and air my grievances and displeasure.

You are wrong.
Which sporean ever not accepted ANY hike in the last 43 years?
dulan is one thing, paying for it is another = acceptance.
do you still pay to buyt the newspaper after it hiked to 90cents a pop?
do you still drive through gantries when ERP hiked?
Will you still use the electricity and pay for it?
That is Acceptance.
KBKP is still acceptance.
My challenge to you is, prove to me with 1 single little example that sporean ever not accepted a hike, any hike in its history.
I am sure you cannot. I cannot also.
If so, can u predict your future now?
huat ah!

We may do away with newspaper, but ERP gantry, no choice, have to pass through, else I have to go to work 1 hour early to siam the ERP. Electricity bills, no choice also, I cannot become a caveman.
KBKP is still acceptance.

One way I can stem my disapproval is through voting, but that option is also cut off.
In order to ensure I have a decent future, I have to work harder and find other opportunites to grow my wealth.

The recent hike was due to increase of GST to 7%. ![]()
A part of P4P's policy to help the poor. ![]()
Vote in a greedy MP and the whole country is in financial turmoil
Maybe next year they will unilaterally increase their salaries again due to inflation. ![]()

Petrol prices down five cents, diesel 10 cents
By Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 16 October 2008 1336 hrs
SINGAPORE: Pump prices are down again - the second time in just over a week. The last time fuel prices were cut was on Oct 7.
On Thursday, Shell took the lead by reducing prices at 10.30am, followed by Singapore Petroleum Company (SPC) and ExxonMobil at 11.30am, and finally Caltex at noon.
All four companies have cut petrol prices by five cents per litre for all fuel grades, and 10 cents a litre for diesel. Premium 95 grade now stands at S$1.846 a litre before discounts, while the price of diesel is reduced to S$1.603.
The latest revision follows a series of petrol price cuts since July 2008, after a drop in crude oil prices.
Crude oil futures were down more than 50 per cent from record highs of above US$147 reached in July, when prices rocketed on fears of supply disruptions.
In early London trade on Thursday, Brent crude slid below US$68 a barrel to the lowest level in more than 15 months, as slowing energy demand took its toll.
Brent North Sea crude for November delivery slumped to US$67.17 a barrel - the lowest level since mid-2007.
New York's main futures contract, light sweet crude for November delivery, was down US$2.06 at US$72.48 a barrel after sinking as low as US$71.21.

I don't have figures to substantiate, so subscribe to using conservative estimation.

They should raise ministerial salaries! Copied from CNA forums:
Look at the minibond saga. Such an important issue and our ministers have no time to attend to it...look at the Hong Kong side even the Chief Executive Donald Tsang come out and speak for the people to urge the banks to compensate the people fairly. It is very clear to me that our leaders are very busy compared to those in Hong Kong they have no time to help Singaporean investors who lost the life savings in minibonds and HN5.
I think it is time for our minister's pay to be increase further because it is obvious they are too underpaid to perform all their duties to the people.

They are going to earn twice or more of the profits. They are going to be laughing non-stop at us.
Now oils price drop to US$71.21. But they charge at US$155.
I see alot of hong kong comparisons, but not much malaysia comparison... is the stuff there about the same price as singapore?
like, how much is a bowl of wanton mee there?
After reading through the headlines on page one again..
ELECTRICITY bills for Singapore households will go up by about 21 per cent from Wednesday - the highest one-time increase in seven to eight years - due to higher oil prices.
wtf is this now with oil prices dipping to an all time low of below $70 since Aug2007
*I forgot to add. What's with revising the tariffs based on "projected oil prices"? If one can really forsee the oil prices 3 months later, that person wouldn't have to work anymore.
we singaporeans are very screw this time.
