There are not many clear cut evils in this world like that of a Casino Operator.
The casino is and always will be a legalized fraudulent activity.
It is fooling of the people, selling people an illusion, knowing that it is an illusion (that they can win) while knowing full well that they will not and for many people, losing their entire life savings and going into crippling debt.
Selling people an activity sold as exciting knowing full well how dangerous an activity it is and then placing the casino downtown, easily accessible to all.

So if Sands collapse, and bring down DBS and OCBC; what will the despots do? They will come to the rescue and the evil 666 will become the casino owners.
So what next? Ah Long and Or Qui Tao?
Evil knows no limits.
When they floated the idea and asked for "feedback", people opposed it MASSIVELY but the despots that are asspots went ahead anyway.
Obviously the way to provide feedback when faced with despots that are arrogant asspots, the only way to do it is to do a Dr Chee Soon Juan and go down on to the srteets.
"He downgraded
OCBC shares to “Hold” from “Buy” with a fair price
of $6.55 (its shares closed yesterday at $5.49)" (from article quoted above)
DBS and OCBC share holders, poor bastards, played out by the asspots that the evil number 666 voted for.

but the casino will still goes on. coz it is too big a project for singapore to fail at international stage.
probably one of the few outcome:
1. Direct capital injection buying a stake at marina sands by Temasek.
2. govt arrange capital injection buying a stake at marina sands thru capitaland, kepland, citydev.
3. govt back Marina sand and guarantee all their debts.

Thats what I said, the 666 that voted becomes owners (by proxy) of an evil organisation. The curse will then fall on them like the cursed Sands organisation.
Dun care if it fails. Having a casino is detrimental to the native population.
I rather it fails... Losing money is better than risking moral decadency in Singapore.

Somehow I got this nagging feeling that the F1 is using Singapore as springboard for bigger things.
When the time is right, it will abandon Singapore for the final destinations of India and China, Middle-East etc.

Yup!
But the trick is to get them to use Singapore as a springboard for bigger things, next year, and the year after that, and the year after that year, and the year after that year. If Singapore can't do that, then F1 will spring else where, not necessarily to China, it could be just across the causeway.

I dont think it is a coincidence that Singtel raised charges after sponsoring the F1. Only Silliporeans can tolerate this type of hidden taxes for the rich to play play...
Besides, sillipore, not many countries want F1.
Gambling is an evil. It lures one into the belief that luck will come, Some becomes obsessed with such beliefs and will do anything and everything to win, with no hard work necessary, at times, even the cost of his own life as well as others.
Since the dawn of civilisation with Sumerians as the firsts recorded ones, gambling had already been ingrained in all cultures. Gambling is not and never a necessary evil, but a habit and a flaw of humanity that has become natural in every known civilisation throughout the course of human history.
No matter how enlightenment is attempted by mankind, gambling persisted thru the ages. Kings, tyrants, depots, rulers and elected govts had tried to eradicate it, but to no avail. It goes instead underground, from the purview of authorities.
Singapore had achieve successes in social engineering attempts. Please do not despise our country's foray into casinoes.
Although on the surface, it seems a necessary move to earn revenue to our state for better social spending and fund healthcare, there is an altruistic motive in finally, after years of battling this social evil of gambling, to allow it to our shores.
The altruistic motive is an attempt to wean off our society from gambling, ironical as it may sound.
Despites years of bans, gambling has continued covertly, in dens and jungle hideouts. Worse still, such operators have no qualms to use brutality, torture and even murders to settle gambling debts.
No one regulates them or have the power for total absolute control over them. Our govt is not a totalitarian state, nor an Orwellian 'big brother watching'. Enforcement is practically unenforsable within dark unknown covans.
As such, many lives were ruined despite the huge sums of education our society had spent on our young. Gambling is too ingrained in the pysche of humanity.
Rather than to waste further lives, the govt had taken on a practical and more proactive role to curb gambling - by building casinoes for die-hard gamblers as well as to regulate the industry, to make it more safer than hooligan type operators abounded with conmen and loan sharks.
Part of much needed funds earned from casinoes will go towards media outlets and controls to wean our citizens off gambling, such advertisements, films, books, etc.
It is still too early to tell if we will achieve success, for casinoes operations had not even started yet, but one thing for sure is that at least our govt is giving attention to eradicate gambling within our society, regulating it and over-time,
if we do not succeed with this generation, success may be found in the next, performing what enlightened leaders of our past history had failed to do.
Rather than to KBKP, do give it a chance. It is never too late to stop casino operations should the social costs proves too high to change mindsets. It's never too late to vote every 4 years.
----------------------
As for the current crises impact to our IR, our banks are heavily capitalised to see it in full operations in 1 years time. Even if banks do drop in their stock capitalisation, our govt is ready to inject funds, for this will be a social project of utmost importance.
With one stone, we may eradicate poverty with the potential wealth casinoes may bring, as well as have enough leftover funds to wipe the trait of gambling, or at least obsessive gambling, out of our young and next generations mind.
Hard work, brains and perseverance is what it takes to have success in life. Not gambling. A game or two is fine, but obsession will only lead to suffering.
As gambling is a cultural habit, even the poor will gamble. So what a recession? Would anyone believe a recession or even depression will stop people from gambling? They may take a holiday or two, but in time, die hard gamblers will be flocking back to casinoes, provided of course, the casinoes measures up to their expectations - a chance at luck.
But, the true 'lucky' ones will be the casino operators and the banks who will reap huge returns on investments.
If anyone has a doubt of it being financed or failing, then think again. Many investors had pulled out of investments. Their money is sitting idle while they source for better returns. What better returns than human needs?
All it needs is for our govt and banks not to panic. Thousands of investors are salivating at the opportunity to own a piece of our IR, even if Sands goes belly up, but then there's still his personal fortune and his group's fortune set aside.

wah, so much gibberish, but thanks for bumping up my thread.
If IR does not work, eventually maybe we convert the buildings to service apartments, offices, hotels.
IR's investors/ bankers will lose money. But it is a case of caveat emptor.
Will the IR even be ready by end 2009?
I don't think people will want to see construction cranes as a permanent feature at Marina Bay for the next 5 years. ![]()

Just three months ago, the construction was like a night bazaar full of lights and activities. Then yesterday, when i drove back from Changi, it was very dim, only the cranes are lightened up just in case RSAF helicopter cockeyes knock into it.

Just be prepared to see those cranes and night lights still there at the end of year 2009.
Maybe even until 2010. ![]()

But my Dear Fuhrer, you forget the about the fourth outcome,
4. govt will increase all taxes from citizens so as to guarantee all their debts.
Tax, tax, tax.
Hike, hike, hike. ![]()
in gambling, the house never loses.
from what i heard, people with foreign passports are welcome to go in to challenge the house for free, while the locals have to pay $200, to deter them from entering.
more money for singapore.
