The Government of Singapore Investment Corporation Private Limited (GIC) is a sovereign wealth fund established by the Government of Singapore in 1981 to manage Singapore's foreign reserves.
In 2008, The Economist reported that Morgan Stanley had estimated the fund's assets at US$330 billion[1], making it world's third largest sovereign wealth fund.[2]

He is a public figure of immense power and influence in Singapore, not just a "private citizen".
His words and views carries weight in Singapore.
It is completely wrong to say that his words carries no influence in government policies.
That is why we must be concerned as Singapore citizens.
'Word carrying weight' and 'enactment into laws' are 2 different issues. MM Lee alone cannot decide. Do not mix lies with half truths.
Discussion is fine, but asking for his death or blaming the govt or our society while there are no such 'assortive mating laws' is quite another issue.
However, i respect the right and freedom of speech by another, even if it is ill conceived or filled with the vilest venom. This will be my last word on this issue.
Fair enough, I just wanted to correct your misleading statement of Lee Kuan Yew being "only a private citizen and a consultant to the govt".
Why do people take Mahathir seriously?
oh wait... they don't.
Why do people take LKY so seriously...

Oh yes, I think he can decide.
He needs power. The moment he relinquishes power, nobody can guarantee his safety. He will have to pay Gurkhas to guard his residence with his own money.

Because Malaysia current PM is not Mahathir son and Mathathir has truly "retired" from politic (he don't hold any position like SM or MM anymore).
