Taiwan is a democratic country. The next protest they are going to have is against the visit of the china official next week.
Is it correct to say that sporeans have always accepted all and any and every hike , past, present (and future)? Its a form of Acceptance, to me, if you continue to Pay And Pay after each hike and go on as normal. To a business, when the customer agrees to pay for the price of a product, that is a form of acceptance.
Would it be sick if this is already a guiness world record?
Is spore unique?
i no no have idea.

its a dilemma really. While I want to have to right to have a protest, its gets frightening when you look at other nations and sometimes it gets out of hand. I actually believe protests should be contained in certain areas to avoid disturbing the peace.
If any other country is like taiwan, you will see people in parliament fighting.
doing that as the leader of the people is such an ugly sight. if your leaders settle their debates with violence, how can you expect the citizens to be peaceful?

Well. Think about it. Singapore has law enforcement. Taiwan, I am not so sure.
Singapore government tax its people. So does Taiwan government.
The different is, Taiwanese people's money end up in corruption.
Singaporean tax money does not end up with corruption (if you're going to fight against this, I guess you want to fight against law. Singapore has law, and has no corruption. Yeh, if you get wat I mean :p).
Eberi country got law enforcement my friend.

Kizarny agrees on this.
low crime doesn't mean no crime.
high crime doesn't mean no law enforcement.

At least in Taiwan govt take people's money they call it corruption
In SG leaders take people's money is called pay raise or to 'prevent corruption'
So which is worse morally? Taking People's money illegally or making it legal to take people's money? At least the taiwanese are legally armed to deal with injustices, in SG no one questions the government's actions as long as its made legal. The genius of our ministers is that they made it legal to take more money from us
In effect both sides are doing the same thing but one is called corruption and the other is to 'prevent corruption'
Such is the corruption of language when the government has unlimited power and has monopoly over the legal use of force
Give and take, you want the politicians to host massive PR campaigns, fight for advertisment spots on newspaper and TV, pay for their events, get dirt on their political opponents ...etc and you expect them not to try to recuperate the money when they get the power?
Let's not talk about political contributions, the biggest contributers are always going to be corporations. They're not going to give money to someone who can't give them decent returns.
And you're going to be surprised when all the smart people don't want to take part in politics?
Not to say the PAP is good and democracy bad, but people seriously needs to understand that if you want more of something, you're just going to take from something else.

well said.
depends on what side of the story you would rather believe in.
the taiwanese ppl has higher political awareness compare to Sgoreans. that is without a doubt.
One of major reason is the role of the media. In taiwan, almost every TV station( maybe less MTV channel) has a timeslot for political discussion. This in turn will raise the awareness of citizens and thus exert pressure on the govt to action against potential area of corruption.
TV station has to be unbiased, actively enageg the sgoreans on sensitive issues, give a platform for opposition opinion. Only then can we have glimpse of hope for full democratic society.

The reason is simple.
Political oppression.
And no, Singapore was not always like that. Go and read Singapore history in 50s and 60s.
There were protests and huge rallys.
It was after Lee Kuan Yew came to power, then he suppressed political activities.
So, older generation politically suppressed, younger generation depoliticised.
That is why today in Singapore, no one will go and join politics.

Are you the new jester?
TW like many if not all countries have laws - but I am not saying the nature of the law.
TW ppl money end up in corruption, maybe.
In singapore, dulai was convicted of corruption . The donation money is people's money. For such heavy crime, he jailed 3 long long very long months.
Maybe because we are busy working to pay for various expenses, mortgage, car loan. Also, unlike Taiwanese, we keep our month shut.
