if govt can start paying $40/hr for building the roads, i believe there are more singaporeans willing to take up these jobs.
the stigma of certain jobs is closely related to the salary paid.
skills labourers such as car mechanics, plumber are kinda sought after and and deem as prestigous. why, coz they are kinda higher paid. while here we do not, thus no singaporeans want to do.
I think it is time that tradesmen such as plumbers, electricians and car mechanics learn some business management skills so they can run their own operations instead of working for others.

Like you said, he aligned with the Japs during WW2. Later on he joined hte Commies and had secret talks with the Plen.
Its damn true. With our level of education and to survive in Singapore ,we all know singaporeans do NOT want to take up jobs that'll pay less and have our pockets empty by the end of the weeek!
To survive here, it is to be bottle to bottle with everyone and that means earning more that the contruction workers to survive.
Thats the blatant truth. We wont be able to survive with constructions pay and with the status quo becoming more and more evidently prevailing, we all want to rise up the ranks.
We got to thank the foreign workers, past and present, for building our architecter's dream for Singapore. Its only through them that thosee blueprints on papaer materialised.
