  He was supposed to be suffering from kidney failure, and require regular kidney dialysis treatment.
  
  During the US bombing campaign in Afghanistan, he would probably be having great difficulties in getting replacement filters cartridges for his kidney dialysis machine.
  
  This should handicap him a bit more, and dry up his funds further, as the filter cartridges are expensive.
