After hearing everything the PM and who else had to say about this issue.. what do you guys think?
Is it possible now in Singapore? Or is it more wayang by those fellers above..
this country is base on meritorcracy, anyone who is capable and qualifiy can alway be the next PM, if not the next MM
and someone will come along and lock the thread and refer to previous existing thread

HAHA the next MM..
But seriously la.. is it really meritocracy? Or is it really a race issue. Not trying to be racist here.. But I'm sure some of you must have heard about S. Dhanabalan and him being passed over for PM by LKY because he was Indian. (It was in Today if i'm not mistaken.)
Or if it's not a race issue.. dare I say that "N" word. If you get my drift.

Minister Vivan with his strong social works had proven to us he would make a good candidate for PM. Dhanabalan is strong and had proven himself in running the economy.
But our current PM Lee had shown himself and proven to us that he is adept in both social works and running our economy.
Would you prefer Minister Vivan to be our PM and manage our economy or Dhanbalan, a man whose authoritarian style is very much similar with MM Lee's, to be our PM and decide on social works?
The current choice of PM has nothing to do with ethnicity. It's based on the best candidate to help manage and lead our society.
Seriously, I don't give a damn now

Then why you post here? Hypocrite. ![]()

depends on how you see meritocracy, LKY himself is aware a majority of sporeans(chinese) won't be able to accept an Indian PM. why rock the boat?
unless you get an indian guy leading a party into the parliament like how obama did if not very unlikely right? minority races have to work harder for the same results. unfair but its the truth.

I heard S. Dhanbalan was once slapped by LHL..wow!
I believe that other races will only take on as PM of Singapore if they got a connection with the LKY in term of his family trees decendency, maybe his son in laws, an eurasian, maybe his grandson in laws, is an indian, maybe his granddaughter in laws, a bangali...etc etc.
And bear in mind, Singapore Chinese holds nearly 90% of the country assets. You dun even think of expecting another race to be the PM for a long time.
i ta mau

Racist?
People should understand that the general public doesn't choose the PM.
The PM is supposedly chosen by the party members of the winning political party after the elections ie. the MPs themselves.
So whose fault? ![]()

Haha yeah you have a point there.
Look yes of course meritocracy applies and all.. but looking at it from a different perspective.. is there really meritocracy here? Or is it just a "nah son your turn to be PM.. i lie back here be your mentor hor" kind of thing? Family is favoured? Nepotism you know?
(Damn I actually said it!) ![]()

i dun think you can pin it against PAP here. this is a legacy from the brits. the party leader is the de facto pm. whether they choose a family member to lead the party is another discussion altogether.
no.. no malay PM
i don't want singapore to merge with malaysia
The first non-Chinese Singapore PM will most likely be an Indian from Malaysia.
There is really no need for these discussions. The fact that there is a President Obama does not mean there is a need for a PM Ishak.
Singapore, being the meritocratic country she is, would elect a PM Ishak the day when he is the most viable candidate. Its not today, but we cannot say that it will not come.

Even the 'liberal' americans have their political dynasty, from the Bushes to the Kennedy family. From the Roosevelt to the Clintons.
I don't mind a non-chinese PM as long as he is able to show to us, we are not going to vote for him based on his race alone.

cos singapore is close to malaysia...
china so far away how to merge?
shldn't be a prob ba. but maybe not so soon. singapore is definitely not as race-tolerant as the govt makes it out to be. it will take a really, really popular and capable guy fr a minority race to become PM.
