When Obama won the presidential elections he said this in his speech.
"That is the true genius of America, a faith in the simple dreams of its people, the insistence on small miracles. That we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door. That we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe or hearing a sudden knock on the door. That we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will be counted-or at least, most of the time."
Barack ObamaTo what extent is this possible in Singapore? If not, we will never see historic leaders like Obama in Singapore.

Why would Singapore even need a leader of historic proportions? Singapore just needs someone who can step on the necks on anyone who rocks the boat. We have a good thing here in Singapore and it wasn't by saying excuse me and giving seats to old ladies that we got to where we are today. listen to McCain's speech too... all those "let's work together" stuff.

They don't need Obama, they only need LKY and LHL, compare the salary. I am sure our MM and PM will be 4-5 times the competency of Obama.
Only LKY and LHL can solve the problems that USA is facing, not Obama.

They would need to form a new party there, PAP, the Peoples' Authoritarian Party.
If they win the elections, subsequent elections, there won't be any Democrats or Republican left. They'd all either be in jail for ISA or sued till they need to seek political asylum in another country.

He's not promising or dreaming about anything in his speech, but extolling the virtues of the political system in US and also the power of self-belief.
Obama is saying that because there is "no fear of retribution in the political process" (either racial or political in his generation). That's why he is able to realize his dreams of being president of the most powerful country in the world as a black, when as recent as 40 years ago would not have been even allowed to sit on the same bus with whites or even study in the same school.

instead, we see tinpot wannabe dictators inflicting their views on others... when they are democratically thrown out, the vent their spleen on the people.. the people they professed they wanted to serve..
we see people here who think that the government must wipe each person's ass after they take a shit.. ranting against the government not doing enough.. yet.. worshipping the US whose premise is to let the people fend for themselves.. even as we speak there are those who are advocating letting both Wall Street and Main Street go to heck and fend for themselves, recession, depression or whatever...
we find people in Singapore who go to the MPs to demand MPs pay for their personal loans.. after they chalk up such debts from their own idiocy like 4D...
people in here rant and rage over "freedoms" without talking or even recognising that such freedoms require a lot of responsibility... but all we see here is a rejection of their own personal responsibilities..
so.. are we, as a people ready?
are we even one people?

US of A took 200 years to be here, and they are still struggling with int'l warfares, domestic and economy problems.
We, singapore, are just about 50 years old, , so give us some time, we should be happy and glad that we did perform well from just a mere 50 years of nation building.
We tends to compare the good side of USA with us, but they got so much bad points too. Be more diversify in your perspectives ya

The true genius of America lies in recognising that other than Criminals, the biggest threat to human rights is the unlimited power of the government. And so the constitution was designed to severely limit the powers of the government and so ensure the people's freedom.(in theory not always in practice though).
In America you have people free to do anything except that which is illegal, the Government, free to do only few actions which is legally allowed to do. In SG it is the Exact opposite.
We are still far from the American ideal because the root of the problem, the unlimited powers of the PAP still exists and theres no reason to believe it will give up its own power

In Singapore, LKY checks on LHL, it's a 100% system, you can't dispute that.

If the government was erroneous, I am sure the Straits Time, Mediacorp, Newpaper, etc, would expose them.
Therefore we can conclude that the Singapore government is 100%.
