Today is a public holiday. If you have some time, do something for the country. Do yourself, your friends and the country a favour. Send them this email (do it again as a reminder even if you have sent it to them before).
Look what I found in the internet and I am forwarding it to you and forward it to as many people you know as possible:
Quote:
Singaporeans are now attempting to lower the cost of living here by stopping all spending and cutting down on spending on essentials.
It will benefit the country and Singaporeans at the expense of foreigners.
Do not spend even if you can, hoard your money in this time of uncertainty and do yourself a favour as well. Do this until the cost of living falls significantly. You will benefit from the lower prices if you delay your spending, you will be able to buy more for less later.

Do something other than just feel frustrated at the despots' relentless grab of public money. You will feel better after you have sent the email.
A Gentle reminder....

or you've posted it around enough times to kill off the bandwidth. how many places did you post it in anyway? at the rate you post here you've probably gathered enough traffic to kill it off

if people follow your advice, foreigners won't be the only ones going home.
anyway if you haven't noticed you're doing what LKY mentioned, repeating a lie enough to turn it into the truth.
now no more power for people
all power already sold to other countries
need to generate your own power now

When the cost of living falls, people will have more spending power and businesses will face less cost pressures.
You mean you are doing what LKY is doing and you keep on repeating the lie that I am lying until you hope, people buy your lie as truth?

Uncle, I dun mind buying white lies.
There won't be much domestic businesses left standing if the foreigners start going home.
And considering that it's more expensive to hire a local, why shouldn't i kick out the local employee and hire the foreign one. I mean, since everyone is not going to spend because of what you suggested why can't i cut my own spending by not keeping locals too ?
It's the failure to understand circular logic like this from people like AndrewPKYap that always make me fear democracy.

Let the despots do something honorable for once and lower the cost of doing business in Singapore so that the businesses can survive with less business instead of surviving only with Singaporeans spending in a downturn.
Since they will never be honorable, then Singaporeans have to take matters onto their own hands and stop spending.
The despots should make hiring a foreigner more expensive than hiring a local so that business owners do not go around hiring foreigners even in a downturn.
As long as the despots continue to be dishonorable, acting as government for foreigners, taking as much money from the people as possible by raising prices and losing it gambling on foreign stocks and shares, don't ask Singaporeans to be fools and continue to spend.
As long as the despots are dishonorable, Singaporeans must wake up and stop spending. Dishonorable despots cannot be trusted.

Freaking thick-skulled fool.
Hoarding money is the greatest disservice one can do to Singapore.
Shut your freakin' claims about punishing the despots.
If everyone hoards money, say bye bye to your job/business etc.
Don't you have basic economics knowledge?
Don't give me the schooled-by-Singapore-styled-education-economics-propaganda bullcrap.
It's bad enough such a high amount of our economy's money gets leaked into CPFs and other taxes. Now you want people to stop spending. Nice one lar.
Reduce consumption to punish the despots? Fat hope.
You will only be punishing the exact SMEs and normal blue-collared workers whom you claim to liberate from the despots by depriving them of an economy.
Besides, they have the money to weather our the crisis (c.f. wages). Do most of the Singaporeans' have that deep buffer?
Another classical oppose-for-the-sake-of-opposing argument.
Go back to school, boy.

Stop spending the prices will come down, cost of living will fall. Any student that studied economics would have known that by the third lesson.
That benefits everyone including businesses. The main group of people that "suffer" would be the foreigners. They will not suffer, just that they will not be able to benefit from working in Singapore.

Ahahahah.
Simplistic assumption.
It shows that you haven't gone through a proper econs lesson.
A reduction in Aggregate Demand (AD) (total demand in the economy if your simple mind can't understand) does not necessarily bring about a drop in General Price Level (GPL). That's because the Aggregate Supply (AS) is flat towards lower levels of production (the Keynesian part of the AS curve). When the economy is not producing a near capacity, a drop in AD will bring about a less than proportionate drop in GPL.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aggregate_Supply
Also, from theoretical as well as empirical sources, prices are often downwards sticky because producers love to raise prices (increase profits) and loathe to do the opposite.
Besides, if there is a general hoarding of money, how are you so sure that a reduction in price will stimulate demand? There's something called a liquidty trap, my friend. I am pretty sure the credit crisis already showed the world so many times that when people have no confidence to spend, no matter what you do, they still won't spend. Lower prices is going to increase AD slightly, but just that slightly.
Yes, reduction in demand will lead to a reduction in price and hence costs of living will fall. Undeniable, provided the market is perfectly competitve (which is not the case in Singapore) and that's only in the microeconomic point of view. Singapore's economy can hardly be investigated from the microeconomic point of view.
Please, our dear little AndrewPKYap, economics class does not only span over three lessons.
What is taught in lesson 20 can scarcely be applied properly to the general economy, much less lesson 3.
Back to school, boy?

Conveniently disregard government intervention have we? You really think that the relentless rise in the cost of living in Singapore has nothing to do with the dishonorable despots?
Singaporeans stopping spending will force the hand of the dishonorable despots and force them to do the honorable thing.
....and because Singapore is in this present predicament because of the dishonorable policies of the dishonorable despots... it is only right that silliporeans become Singaporeans and stop being fools, and stop spending, for their own sakes and the sake of the long term health of the country.
You so need to send the email:

Please Andrew, don't make people hate you even more. Ghandi and Mandela were great people. To compare with CSJ is an insult to them
Yes, government should spend to simulate the economy.
As for myself, I have no choice but to save money because things are all very expensive and my job is at risk.

Really, if you don't have an econs background, stop spouting about government intervention.
What makes you think that the govt won't spend to keep prices from falling? It's after all within their means...
Or maybe I shall give you a lecture on the multiplier effect in the economy and how come a change in consumption or investment or government intervention won't produce the desired results?
On 2nd thought, I think not.
I am scared you will litter this forum with the remanants of your exploded pea-brain when I am halfway through this lecture.
Let's hope that your thick skull can finally be of use - help to contain your pea-brain explosion within your head only.
RIP, AndrewPKYap's pseudo-intelligence.

There were many dogs of despots, like you, during the time of Ghandi and Mandela that considered them (especially Mandela) a terrorist even. I would love it if ass-licking dogs like you hate me. Why would I not be happy that, sh!t tasting animals that lick assholes of despots hoping for some crumps to fall from their table, hate me?

There are two sides to the coin. Cost cutting and or spending. What Singapore now needs is to have the cost of living lowered.
The despots benefited from the cost of living increases and as usual, having taken the public money relentlessly for themselves and to feed their gambling addiction (money from the cost of living increases), losing the money to foreigners overseas, they want Singaporeans to bail them out and bail the foreigners in Singapore out.
Singaporeans must no longer be fools and be forever supporting despots that are dishonorable, making policies that destroys the country and then asking Singaporeans to bail out their stupidity and greed.
For once, Singaporeans must stop being fools and hoard their money.... and send the email to remind everyone to do the same...

Possible Indian sub-continent war.... this one will involve direct conflicts between two nuclear armed states....
HOARD YOUR MONEY!!!!!! AND REMIND YOUR FRIENDS TO DO THE SAME....
I definitely will try to save as much as possible and only buy essential.
In some sense, government will be "spending" if it lowers the cost of providing public services.

You think that public money grabbing despots will do it? Maybe a token wayang wayang act.... Singaporeans better do it themselves and stop trusting dishonorable despots.

Stop this nonsense! Stop giving out advice when you have no clue what this will do. Your idiotic advice is only going to hurt Singapore's economy.
Geeze, how foolish and self destructive you are!
Oops, sori, dun mind, just bumping up my Uncle's thread.
