Today is a public holiday. If you have some time, do something for the country. Do yourself, your friends and the country a favour. Send them this email (do it again as a reminder even if you have sent it to them before).

Ferdinand Marcos is good for the Philipines? Thaksin Shinawatra taking the Singapore senile despot's path is good for Thailand? Suharto's murderous regime is good for Indonesia?
Thailand is taking its time to grow and they could and can do what the senile despot did and that is sell the country to foreigners... but the Thai people, are too proud of their country and heritage to ever do that, be mainly coolies of the foreign MNCs.
Let's enlighten you a little bit, Thailand's the biggest supplier of the world's rice. Of course they do not have to rely on the foreign MNCs, 49% of their labour force is engaged in Agriculture.
Plus they actually have natural gas and coal reserves of their own.
Thaksin sought to strengthen his country by not relying on foreign trade and investment and wanted to build a national energy company to compete in the world market. He also privatized the media.
He tried to alleviate rural poverty and introduced universal healthcare.
So far all i can see is that Thaksin's has been doing good for Thailand.
But unfortunately the US is Thailand's largest export market and second largest supplier after Japan. And they would never accept a leader who wants to create a state energy supplier to compete with them.

What you said might hold true 50 years ago. After farking 50 years, Singapore is still beholden to foreigners. The cursed despots, blame them. They cornered the country's resources and have only losses to show for it. No Sonys no Samsungs.

The present governments do not restrict other people standing for elections, unlike here where they say one thing and do another, control the press so that the other parties do not have a voice, persecute dissidents and opposition unless the opposition are willing to be dog like...
Oh they have done so, the Filipinos have changed their governments quite a few times.
And they have come to realise People's Power is only an illusion. And would never bring a government that they need.

Ridiculous, Sony and Samsungs had the funds to start out because Japanese and Korean banks borrowed heavily from foreign banks(Euro and US) to start out.
That's why their economies are so badly hit during 1997 (1986-1990 for Japan) when all the foreign banks moved in to start buying up their stuff cheap. You can't really argue about the price when your funds are already controlled by the foreign banks.
And they have a population of 49 million (Korea) and 127 million (Japan)
Meaning mathematically they have 12 times and 30 times the chance of producing highly qualified personnel. There's nothing mysterious about Sony and Samsung, it's pure maths. Why do you think they keep letting in the foreigners? They have to up the ratio of talented people because we simply cannot produce enough.
The establishment of the CPF allowed the government to have accessible funds and reduced their dependance on foreign banks.
Temask Holdings' purpose is to have a strong state corporation that would make it difficult for any foreign corporations to come here and establish a monopoly, thus allowing them to have a stranglehold on Singapore's politics.
Why don't we have a Sony and Samsung? Because we aren't allowed to borrow heavily from foreign banks for the funds to set up in the first place. In exchange, our economy cannot be crippled without warning. It's basically a give and take.
I'm not saying what LKY done is morally good, because we just traded several foreign bullies for just 1 local bully. It's not elegant either, but definitely more resilient.

other then your regular thai massages you don't seem to know a lot about other countries do you? have you ever talked to filipinos who told you how hopeless they feel about their own country? how they missed the old days? and your love for thai massage, you claim you like thailand but how much do you even know about the country and its people beyond going there to spend your money on luxuries??

Good, more people like you and we will definitely bring the cost of living down. Every time they raise prices we as a people cut down on our spending. I rather spend in JB than to pay the GST here and then find that it is not enough and have to pay hidden taxes like the 21% increase in electricity bills.

It is democracy run by honorable people that will bring them a government that they need. At least now they will not have another Marcos and they will not have a government that lose their hard earned money to foreigners and raise electricity bills by 21% during a recession due their stupidity (Singapore will have its best years, the next 5-10 years, stupidity) and lack of vision.

What rubbish are you selling? Sony is foreign owned? The Korean government does not have the money unlike the despots because the government of Korea is not so dishonorable as the despots to take the people's money and then lose billions and billions to foreigners bailing out the foreign banks.
You might have some delusions but it is obvious to any casual observer that the economy in Singapore is dominated by the GLCs, the despots run companies that are good at siphoning money from Singaporeans and then promptly lose it to foreigners like Singtel and Optus.

When did I say Singtel and Optus are owned by foreigners? I said, the GLCs are good at siphoning money off Singaporeans, like Singtel siphoning Singaporeans money and then lose it to foreigners, like the billion dollars losses Singtel suffered buying Optus.
