Typical despot mentality - that Two party system cannot work here
They do not want the accountability that comes with having a two party system - they want to be able to take as much public money for their own pockets as possible without the chance that people will kick them out for being so dishonorable.
Now that the despot has opened his mouth, isn't it obvious that Dr Chee Soon Juan was right all along?
you guys didnt read between the lines
1 PAP party for chinese
1 PAP party for malay
1 PAP party for Indian
1 PAP party for others
when population reaches 6 million or more, still 1 party?
By then there is no opposition with sufficient experience.
Maybe wait long long lor.
Wait they need to spend time fixing opponents.
Then they will have no time to look into more urgent matters like being hipper than obama, expressing disappointment at retrenchments or increasing GST to help the poor.

Haiz...two parties won't work? He didn't even try.
Never assume, for it makes an ASS out of U and ME - Unknown
He might have calculated wrongly. This is the worse time to antoganise the electorate. If things are rosy and fine, this statement might have gone unnoticed.
At lunch I was talking to a couple of regualr apathetic Singaporeans and as expected, they did not know the cancer patient made this statement (since they are so apathetic) and when I told them, one of them asked incredulously, "He said that?" and his face turned pale.
I never knew that the despots can actually get apathetic Singaporeans so worked up. The cancer patient might have done Dr Chee Soon Juan more good than anything Dr Chee could have done to gain support.
The cancer patient has hardened the hearts of many apathetic, neutral Singaporeans against him.

Well, we elected our MP. our MPs will elect the Prime Minister. So indirectly, we elected our prime minister! But all this soon will change when he gets elected as the God Father Emperor of Singapore.

totally agree with you there, nothing CSJ had done or will be doing would ever gain him as much support.

his comment just justify he is trying to rule singapore with a iron fist and before we all die, there will be no more election.

Make two parties system for what...?
It will bring factionalism.
Factionalism is a serious cost and will render Singapore worse off than before.
First, let us think clearer.....in my opinion, these ideas about two-parties system, or other permutations and ideas, are being discussed due to a general feeling that there is a disconnect between the government and the governed. Some people are bored and want to see change. However, it cannot be assumed that two-parties system or more vibrant political landscape will bring political contentment, or results. It cannot be assumed that this is the pill, the prescription.
We just need to look at factionalism and party politics in other countries and see what the result is, and how it affects common people. Are ordinary people in those countries neccessarily more politically contented, and feel more in touch and connected with the government elites..?
I just dont think so.
This is not the solution. Maybe there is no solution.
But one thing is for sure, more factionalism = more chaos, slower decision making, it is bad for Singapore.
