i believe sure got la. there are some old, elderly, illiterate, etc don't know where to put their money into (shares too risky, fixed D interest too low, dunno anything about bonds) but looking for a steady income ( in the form of interest payments) or something that will earn abit higher interest.
They walk into a bank (we all know which bank now), bank officer tell them to put into this ''new product'' that is safe and pay 5% interest p.a., some more guaranteed by large US bank.. but bank officer never say anything about CMO, swap party arrangements, counterparty risk ...
These people didn't know anything about risk/reward ratios, but they wanted something that will outpace inflation. to them, putting their money into something like this make sense, some more so many others have done it already, and if it's marketed by DBS, it should be safe, if not, why would DBS market it. so why not?
I think these people are the poor things, some of them have lost alot of their life savings, and these people ought to be given another chance. the thing is, how are u going to differentiate these people from the opportunistic ones?
This is just the case of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, you can't sieve out the true victims from the profitting.
ya lah... Greed is the word that leads to the downfall of many.
We cant blame ghamen for our greed coz ghamen themselves are greedy. if top not straight, bottom wont be aso wat.....
having said that, i think we can sympathize the losers but not to the extend for repaying them for their losses. Nothing is ever call safe investment. Investment will somehow or other got some form of risks involved.
Guarantee? My ass. The only guarantee we ever have is that we will die someday. Trust bank guarantee? hahahaa... my toes are laughing.
