SINGAPORE Telecommunciations has launched a new service to allow its mobile customers to track the physical location of other SingTel customers, with their permission.
Launched on Wednesday, the Locator service will display up to three designated users' locations on the phone via an interactive map.
Locator, said SingTel vice president for consumer marketing Wong Soon Nam, will give 'parents and caregivers ... peace-of-mind of knowing the whereabouts of their elderly and young family members anytime easily, without calling or sending an SMS to them.'
To prevent abuse, the person being tracked has the option to allow or deny the service when it is being activated. He will also get a SMS reminder that he is being tracked monthly, and can deactivate the service anytime.
Only users on SingTel's mobile network will be tracked, with accuracy ranging between 50 to 500 metres. The service costs $5.35 monthly.
now your wife will know you visit geylang
haha... still nid pay $5.35
nothing is free..
The Government can track you in the physical and cyber world for free.

Think 21st Century. This isnt East Germany. With face/voice/browsing pattern recognition capabilities plus exponential growth in computer processing, its just some clicks of a mouse and presses of the keyboard and you got the person you're looking for.

let's say they want to track all 4 million people in singapore, they will need to employ 2 million to monitor, assume 1 to 2. than employ another 1 million to monitor that 2 million and so on.... not very free, but very ex, ain't it?
Nope... you just need one guy to monitor sgf...
I say its free because the capabilities are probably already installed.
But then again, maybe thats where all our CPF money went to. Or maybe sponsored by the US of A. No matter, its definitely worth it, to control-freaks like the PAP.

maintainance and running of the system.
and need to update the software and stuff...
even if the capability is already installed, still need money...
If acutally a simple concept... In western country handphones are called cellphones because they work in a cell/grid system... Meaning there is a cell tower every few Kilometers... Lets say you're in Boon Lay, you make or receive a call, you have to get through the tower at Boon Lay, then it transfer the call along the grid next to it until it reaches the caller... That's why cell range is actually limited to maybe around 5 kilometers only...
So... its actually easy to track you... they just track your signal from the nearest cell... but it is definately impossible to pint point your exact position... they can say you're in Boon Lay but they can't say which mama shop you're in...
Fine, it costs money, if you're so uptight about it. As if they have a limited supply of it.

Thats where RFID technology comes in. But who cares. As if anyone of us is such a bigshot that the government actually wants to track us.

haha, first rule of the world, there is always finite resource. and to monitor people, you will need to... employ other people to watch them...
You're right. (God! I hate arguing over such trivial issues)

RFID is a cool thing but it still doesn't pint point your location... it can track the distance the RFID to the scanner and the direction, but it has limited range... lets say about 400 meters tops...
Its because RFID doesn't have its own power source... its gets its power from the signal sent from the scanner... RFID is mainly used for I.D and inventory checking... the only time I've heard people use RFID to track is lost animals and library books...
Again, you still need to put RFID into the handphone... and if you knew RFID is used to track people with their handphones, the first thing you do it rip it out...
I dont know the specifics, but isnt the government able to track you even if your handphone is switched off. You got to take out the battery to prevent that, which is the same as throwing your phone away.

government is not tracking people all the time because it is not free to monitor everyone.
it is actually necessary to track people if there is a disater like 911 with people trapped in debris
Haha, what about the time when they questioned the lady who joked about Mas on the phone.
Well, anyway good for you if you think Big Brother isnt watching. If you think you're safe you probably are.

He's a secret... the one that track you, it's the guy you keep seeing whenever you enters a coffee shop, your teacher, your boss, your mother, your friends, the cctv you pass by...
you are monitored by someone all the time... the government just need to bring them down for coffee...
in addition, the government have listening posts everywhere...
Or...go live on a deserted island. That'll solve LOTS of problems but....
