Well, anyway good for you if you think Big Brother isnt watching. If you think you're safe you probably are.
Honestly, I dont remember. Just vague outlines. But I bet the NSA has technology to mine phone conversations for certain words, just as it has the capability to do the same for emails. And whats stopping a good ally like SG from having that technology? If you ask me, I dont know whether or not our government has that technology. But its out there, thats for sure.
If we have a clear conscience... I guess it shouldn't bother anyone of us....

yup, that's why the police solved so many telephone scammers.... not.
You're really persistent aren't you. I just remember that a lady got questioned by the police for joking about Mas on the phone. People were wondering how the government knew. Trivial stuff: arguing whether it costs money to set up surveillance (which was stupid of me I admit).
Do you know the government is tracking Singaporeans. I dont think so. Do you know they are not? Probably not too. You dont know. I dont know. I'm just speculating in the absence of details (unless you work for the ISD).

I know I should. But as it is, do I really care if the Singapore Government can spy on us? Its not as if Singapore is a shining beacon of civil liberty.
While on the subject, does anyone really think they can escape from being tracked while on the DoD toy called the Internet?

i do not claim to be superior, but i would like you to not brush me aside like you did when i enquired about the budget that is needed to monitor every singaporeans like in big brother.
Did I? I apologise. Of course, it would take money to moniter anything. I was just figuratively pointing out that if the PAP wanted to, no cost would be spared.
Seriously, what happened about the rumour I was alluding to? If you wouldnt mind sparing me the trouble of finding out.

you were saying that the government is monitoring everyone, with the woman mas joke phone call as example.
Yeah, so whats the true story behind that rumour (or as you would have it, hearsay)?
If I offended you, it was unintentional and I apologise (again).

If the only reason why people argue over here is to gratify their egos, instead of having a constructive dialogue, then it really reflects on the state of the social consciousness.
So does anyone know whats the real story behind the lady who supposedly got questioned for joking about Mas? Or it didn't even happen?
no lah... not using satalite lah...
the company i am working for have been trying to sell this service to telco for quite sometime liao. Duno this service provided by singtel is done by my company or not. Need to check it out.
Anyway, just for ur infor, it is done using mobile cell id networks. using some math formular, user position can be pin point to up to 50m without the use of GPS device. Our company design and built this alogrithm[gprx] into the phone sim card. In short, once activate, it can tell the position of the mobile.
With a software and server map data, it can provide alot of service, base on current location, at your finger tip.
Unlike gps, it work for indoor too. Combine that with gps.... the range of new age service that can b provided is rather.... huge

and need to update the software and stuff...
even if the capability is already installed, still need money...
No prob, you can volunteer your free service to them.

SINGAPORE Telecommunciations has launched a new service to allow its mobile customers to track the physical location of other SingTel customers, with their permission.
Launched on Wednesday, the Locator service will display up to three designated users' locations on the phone via an interactive map.
Locator, said SingTel vice president for consumer marketing Wong Soon Nam, will give 'parents and caregivers ... peace-of-mind of knowing the whereabouts of their elderly and young family members anytime easily, without calling or sending an SMS to them.'
To prevent abuse, the person being tracked has the option to allow or deny the service when it is being activated. He will also get a SMS reminder that he is being tracked monthly, and can deactivate the service anytime.
Only users on SingTel's mobile network will be tracked, with accuracy ranging between 50 to 500 metres. The service costs $5.35 monthly.
Whose permission will Singtel get to activate this service - the person who will be tracked or the party who want to track the person?
