Well... tat is why I feel tat the ruling should change from time to time to keep it more relevant... As u say it, it has been in Quran for ages, some law in the past which is too harsh or not relevant in today society should be changed... Some really sounds absurb to people who first time hear it...
Anyway just another question to ask... can muslim change faith ? I heard tat anita sarawak in the past got serious problems frommuslim committee, sending death threats and all when she wanted to marry a foreigner -

LIFE should not be corrupted by our human interpretation of Ancient Text written by Ancient Man in their Ancient Moments in THEIR Ancient Life Time.
We should follow the moral guidance of the Ancient Text, and be fully aware of the distinctions between the "forms" or "manner" in which Religion is practised, and the "fundamentals" or "principles" of the Religion itself.
Some of the "forms" or "manner" in religious practices have much to do with the social and cultural practices that is dictated by Time, Place, and Events.
What may be relevant to another place or culture or in historical time, may not have any place in our culture, our geographical location, and our time in the Twenty First Century. -
I hope I am not making the sparks fly again... it is just tat we r not really free of muslim issues as u say it is. I don't really care wat u all do, but I am affected whether I like it or not...
Just an illustration, maybe gve u more insight on why pork issue is important to discuss. In Army,we r not supposed to bring in pork into our bunk. I know a a blur king who ask his mum to bring ba gua for him during parent visiting week. Well, he eat it in bunk, not realising the law, and the muslim all scold him and ignore him for some time. He didn't ask them to eat with him, why the anger ? WHy does he have to eat it outside, away from the comfort of a table ? Why we can't even sit with them to eat when we r eating pork ? When I ask why, they can't answer. It is like "hush hush, don't question why" sort of like the name-tat-cannot-be-mentioned in Harry Potter. If u can't explain, or argue it out, then I find it untolerable.
WHy do we have TRY to understand and GIVE IN to muslim when they can't even give a remotely good reason for us to ? -

Not sure if you are "smart or stupid" but the rule (not the law) in most SAF Barracks is that no food is to be brought into the bunk area.
Where can you keep the food?
Keep inside your cupboard with all the military issued clothes and equipment?
You want the ants and cockroaches to inhabit inside your cupboard, or come into your bunk area?
What happen if we lose you when you fall sick from food poisoning?
You want to "keng" and escape training?
It is not just the Muslim NSF men that don't want you to bring the "bak kua", but the Platoon Sergeant will get hell if you get sick through food poisoning, and the "bak kua" is found in your cupboard.
It will mean that the Platoon Sergeant and your Section Commander did not do a thorough job in looking after your health to become a fit Combat Ready NSF. -

of course, its downright STUPID to bring in perishable food into camp and try to save them for later lah, but bunk SURE got biscuit ah, pringles ah, bread ah, etc, etc...
as long as no ants, cockroaches and smell is detected during inspection, its not an issue... its a test of one's sense of responsibility to keep their food properly. besides, its bad for morale to deprive men of such basic luxuries... -

4:12 In what your wives leave, your share is a half, if they leave no child; but if they leave a child, ye get a fourth; after payment of legacies and debts. In what ye leave, their share is a fourth, if ye leave no child; but if ye leave a child, they get an eighth; after payment of legacies and debts. If the man or woman whose inheritance is in question, has left neither ascendants nor descendants, but has left a brother or a sister, each one of the two gets a sixth; but if more than two, they share in a third; after payment of legacies and debts; so that no loss is caused (to any one). Thus is it ordained by God; and God is All-knowing, Most Forbearing.
This complication will surely result in difficulties on both sides especially for the sons or daughters on which religion he or she must be taught and eventually chosen by them. There is a great tendency that this kind of marriage will not be successful.

Do not blame the Islam for the acts of the Muslims... illustration: there are singaporean who robbed banks... do you blame singapore, the law of singapore or the singaporean?

Let's use this scenario. 2 countries, one country give very strict driving test, and tester will not accept bribes and up to standard. A lot of people have to try many times to pass. The other give very easy test. Tester accept bribes and will allow those tat bribe him to pass. Of course the latter country got more serious traffic accidents. Wen accidents happened, maybe u should think if it is the system fault or if it is the person fault.
It is like some countries, having serious crime problems (bribery, drugs legal, countries ruled by mafia). Do u blame the citizen or system for tat ?
There indeed r some isolated cases like singapore bank robberies etc but I am talking about generally. Generally speaking, other religion have fewer high profiles incidents. I never hear a buddhist related fights or crimes except for sword fighting novel (they r fiction)
In the case of muslim, there r many problems. They have very harsh punishment for disobeying, and fail to provide good reasoning behind actions. They believe in Jihab, and they believe in revenge, ((those who harm the muslim brother, u must take arms and harm them back etc etc)) Their lives will be vastly different from other groups (spending a lot of time in mosque, only with their own groups during tis time. Cannot eat same food or alcohol, leads to eating and entertainment with own group. Fasting and other practise not common, making them even look, behave and experience differently. Inter marriage and quiting religion not allowed, thus lead to not mixing of ideas), thus leads to isolation
Frankly, I don't know what do I hope to achieve from tis. I guess I am just not happy with fanatics of religion. I just hope to place some doubts hence = lesser fanatics, though I guess it is as hard as someone asking me to go to a church

Hi "Stupidissmart", I hope you do not mind me coming in, but "kyas" was actually trying to say that it is not ISLAM that is at fault for creating so many fanatics that go out to kill people of other races, religions, etc.
There is nothing wrong with the Religion (or the system as you prefer) in this case - it is the people who deliberately prefer to re-interpret the teachings to suit their own personal agenda.
So far, we are lucky that no one has re-interpreted the Budhist religion to lead a Budhist "Jihad" against any society or culture that do not see eye to eye with them.
In India, there were some Hindu fanatics that went out of their way to destroy a Muslim Mosque that was existing since 200 plus years ago. Despite the best effort of the Government Leaders (who are moderate Hindus themselves), the Hindu fanatics proceeded to demolish the Mosque.
Also, you have some crazy Chrisian Cults, who preferred to interprete the teachings of the Bible and lead their faithful followers into mass suicide.
You have a point also, where if a Government do not remedy a faulty system, and allow the system to rot, and create rotten citizens, then it is the fault of the Government.
However, the Government is not just an abstract entity that has a Life of its own. The Government is made up of Politicians, who are Humans, and each have their own private agenda.
So again, the Constitution of a Country as to how a Government is to operate, can also be corrupted by the people that form the Government.
I think we should blame the individual human beings, who have some fanatical ambitions to power, and prefer to interprete some teaching in a manner so as to take advantage the gullibility of the less brilliant, and move them to commit crime against other humans. -
