The rich has a higher propensity to save ratio as compared to the poor. GST dont really affect them. Want to tax the rich and help the poor? Increase the progressive income tax!
The poor spend almost all their money on necessities. When GST increase, most producers will pass on the cost to their products. In the end who lose out? The poor!
The GST argument to help the poor is flawed! It will only work if producers absorb the price increase.
Enough said, Singapore is a tax heaven for the rich anyway.
