I dun mind extra 1.5% GST for free transport :D
Imagine... say yearly expenditure $30k (which is a lot for most pple)
That's $450 a year on transport, averaged out to $37.50 a month (it's low even if it's for per person, and not per family). It's even cheaper than the bus pass for tertiary students ![]()
I guess the bus fans in this forum will have damn a lot of outings on bus spotting by then... ![]()
Good leh!
Can vote Raymond Lim back to parliament liao ![]()

Oh! me dun mind too, i will sell off my car and take free transport, eat at hawker centres, shop at HDB and go holiday to third world destination, all these will help me to evade Gst
When GST goes up to 8.5% and there is free public transport.
The $1.2billion will turn out to be not enough because free public transport will invite abuse and excessive usage. Free mah!
WTF is this Raymond Lim talking
When they increase they say "Because of Oil Increase On price, We have no choice but to increase the Public Transport price" -> REMENBER very WELL
Now He say not related, Threaten us that if free ride he will raise GST. THat mea GST wun rise till 8.5%. When 8.5%, my fellow mate remenber we will have FREE TRANSPORT.
NExt election Down with Raymond LIM. Tok Cock so much

do not mean 8.5% and you will get FREE public transport.
GST can be 8.5% or more and still no FREE public transport.

the problem is not tok cork in singapore dun hv to pay, the problem is that they tok cork and still get high paid, but when we tok cork, they sue us.
typically of PAP trying to twist singapore request.
when we ask not to increase or possible decrease of transport fare, they say GST8.5% for free transport.
when we ask to consider retrench foreigners first instead of singaporeans, they say singapore cannot survive without foreigners contributing to the economy.
i strongly urge all singaporeans to buy a motorbike, small car at least the mode of transportation follow the trend of market. COE is down, price at oil pump is down!
damn the transport company!!

Just wonder what does Gst got to do with transport fare?? And if the foreigners are contributing to the economy and also that we cannot survive without them, why then are we as singaporeans still paying the same fare prices as them. Citizens should hv previlage to more concession as they compromised with the govt to allows foreigners to stay here.

But with oil prices — which operators traditionally cite as one of their high cost factors — dropping significantly in recent months, why have bus fares not come down in tandem?
Mr Lim explained: "This is because the public transport fare is not directly linked to the oil prices. We link it to national factors, like the inflation level in Singapore, and the wage level in the whole of Singapore."
Did he mention public fare also link to national factors , inflation level , wage factors during the price hike last time ...
Now then mention ... Can like that 1 meh .
Now wage also decreasing what unless he meant the wage of the public transport operators are increasing.

So the main point of what u are saying is,who is the "major shareholders" of SMRT?Must be "LEE" lar.
bus fare has got nth to do with oil lehx..they got soooooooo many factors to consider on whether to reduce fare..so fret not..bus fare will never ever go down..
singapore is a country with no gravity...cause when things goes up...
it never come down!!
"Long" live the LEE empire
excuses to increase price and that they cant operate without increasing prices. Now sg has 5 million over population. How can they still manage to operate in the past where sg has only 4 million population?
Now that oil has gone down does it mean that prices must go down too? like taxi they no longer need the 30 cents charge becos oil prices go down.

Their tactic is increase and more increase to get more and more revenue frome us. But done so with pillows on our tummies before they rain blows on our bellies -pyschological tactic.
More renenue in the govt's pocket means greater control and regulation over the economic affair as compare to leaving it in the hands of the citizens.
For instance, they collect $9 more from us but gives us back $2 as free transport. And make gain of $7 into the govt piggy bank.
Free transport?. Puii a gimmick to milk more money from us.

yes but govt is very smart. you can see the hdb flats in hougang. They dun give money to opposition to upgrade flats and lifts.
The thougth of this made most sgs melt
The minister appeared well prepared for the dialogue session. With the HUGE fall in oil price from the record high of US$147 per barrel to US$33.44 last week, these GLC transport companies are laughing their way to the banks from the substantial savings.
Is the transport ministry going back on their promises for greater competition?
The minister could address the genuine concerns of residents regarding the rising costs with greater reassurances but it was met with a veiled threat of a GST HIKE amid an impending global economic slump.
We have been overcharged from past decades resulting in the huge reserves and the tons of money being expended in overseas investments. Is it so difficult to request for a more TRANSPARENT fare mechanism? The minister SHOULD put his foot down to stop further profiteering by the GLCs.
At the end of the day, MPs and Ministers do get their mandates from the voters not from the GLCs, so get your priorities right.

just tip the % votes in the next GE...
Not the PAP are strong, but our opp are too weak.... How to fight? Most of us dun even need to vote.
fares only go up. :(

you are right, no relation at all! he is just avoiding the question all together. like i said, either he is an idiot or he is treating us like an idiot!
however i am not for concession for all singaporeans. But i am for full day concession for elderly or disable instead of stamping a time restriction on them.
If i am reporters i would ask him immediately,
"by raising 1.5%GST we can have free transportation for singaporeans? How sure are you? if singaporeans permit are you going to implement it? will you walk the talk? or just talk the cock?"
maybe he just talk cock follow by sing a song!!
and if u ask it u will be out of job the next day media is controlled

if the transport company score record profits, they will have to pay more taxes to the govt! the govt will still gain!
but if the transport company does pay more taxes due to stangant profits, ppl who pay less transport fare are not going to pay more taxes.
maybe that why the govt keep mum!and give us an idiotic response.
