Instead of squarely pinning the blame on the children, does it cross anyone's mind as to the negligent role of the state in this whole episode?
For a regime that punishes parents who do not send their children to primary school, punishes children for not upkeeping their parents who struggle to get by, dictates how the finances of a family can/cannot be utilised (think the restrictions imposed on the circumstances under which parents can utilise their CPF funds to fund their children's education) and still levies taxes (both direct and indirect), just what on earth are the funds hoarded in the name of the state Treasury used for?
No wonder Temasek has billions to burn (and simply dismiss them as "paper losses"), in addition to the astoundingly-unbelievable wages paid out to the "talents" running this regime...

i strongly support for some form of social welfare.
this will keep the younger workforce feel more motivated to stay in this country to contribute and at the sametime, can live a happier old age instead of dying of stress.
screw the regime !!

I agreed with wat u guys said, SG should hv a beta Social Welfare system... Most charity organization is depending on public funding(NKF). I believe Gov should step the gear up to help the unfortunate.
How could they feel the pain when they(Gov) are living in Millionaire lifestyle, I saw number of old folks in Chinatown still collecting carton box for living... Sad case

Should Tom open a niteclub, and within 6 months recoup his capital ( true story of Fire Discotheque for those old enough to remember the 80s) and within 1 year earn another 1 million dollars and every year of which he can use for social spending, or
Should Tom just give away the initial million dollar for social welfare and never see it again?
2. ) Money don't drop from the sky. It needs to come from somewhere. If the children cannot afford to feed their aged parents in this competitive world, who will feed them?
Theoratically, the rich can, but how many rich are there? Probably at most 20% of our population. Their money wont last. But if 100% of us can come out with a few dollars more, we will be able to help the poor more.
Thing is, are you prepared to fork out more in taxes without crying 'pay and pay'?

Agree, sometimes old ppl describe what they see in their head n not what happening around. They can carry lots of emotion with them.

and most of their brain had gone senile, back to childhood again, the society had take the toll on them..whatever it is, i believe if one do well during his/her young time, build a good family with good responsibility as a parents, know how to save, educate and be good. I dun think she will hv enjoyed a merry christmas and a happy new years with her childrens and grandchildrens. A good Golden age. -

Can the govt at this stage of our country development be less restrictive in defining who the poor are? At this age and time, ppl can be rich today, poor tomorrow n back to rich again.

then give birth to one or two lor, why give birth to so many and cannot take care of them?? You cannot say you like to have to sex but dun want to take responsibility rite?? So you enjoy your sex without birthcontrol, fine, but remember to take care of what you created.We see lots of people here married earlier and then give birth one by one without taking care of them. So instead of creating and bringing up good peoples to this society, more nonsense peoples are created giving the society more problems.
We hv to look at our state of financial, life and capabilities before engaging to be ready to be a parent and not anyhow sex sex here and there and leave the childrens run about...and later when old start to feel sorry about it.

some grandpa and grandma are just too stubborn, very hard to take of them, my opposite house neighbour, a rich family built their wealth from a tradition business by his father, now his father old liao, alway gone missing and very stubborn, the family felt very sad, want to take care of him also diffcult, dun take care of him also feel unfilial, I use to see police car send him back.

dun worry lah, we jovial type will not end up like this, most of them, during their young time, stressed too much, become rich and wanted more...me also feel sad for him, afterall the hardwork, now also dunno who he is, alway shout at his sons and daughter in laws, then sometime sleep on the lawn...the 2 sons also give up liao. Then he always wanted to go out, but dunno how to come back, so his sons make him wear a dog tag with the address...that is why police car alway sent him back.So, rich for what, also cannot enjoy. Funny

I agree. It is disgusting that the state can afford to lose BILLIONS of dollars in less than a year while doing very little for poor and needy Singaporeans.
