Since a good lot of the inhabitants of this forum are too uneducated in the history of the relationship between Jews and Muslims, and probably prefer going to Zouk/Double-O to blow $300 in a night instead of learning something useful, here are a few pictures to appeal to and educate your minds:
These images are but a sample of life in the province of al-Andalus in the Iberian (present-day Spanish) peninsula between 711 - 1492, where they show Jews and Muslims living in peace with one another. Al-Andalus was the Arabic name given to parts of the Iberian peninsula governed by Muslims at various times during that period.
Jews constituted more than 5% of the population, and Jews from other parts of Europe emigrated to al-Andalus, where they were treated with dignity. The province was a key center of Jewish life during the early Middle Ages, producing important scholars and one of the most stable and wealthy Jewish communities.
An even more recent example, was the Spanish Inquisition during the 16th century, where Jews were persecuted and eventually the government ordered all Jews and Muslims expelled from Spain. The Ottoman Empire, a Muslim empire located in present-day Turkey immediately sent its fleet to evacuate the refugees where the Jews, specifically, established a flourishing community in the Empire
Peace betwixt Jews and Muslims is possible. One party has to start the outreach, and Israel, where it has taken land forcibly from the Muslims to begin with is in the better position to initiate any sort of peace process.

You can pretty much get Nostradamus to predict anything if you work hard enough at it.
I never understood the belief that people centuries ago could make accurate predictions on when the world would end.
Considering human nature, we would wipe ourselves out in a series of wars and famines, considering the depleted population and destroyed infrastructure we are then unable to protect ourselves from diseases and natural disasters.
This is hardly rocket science. Any decent observer of history would give you the same conclusion.

This sort of questions rarely get asked by the media so i'm gonna ask them here.
Though they are given Gaza strip and West bank to self govern, are they given proper access to food, electricity, clean water, medical care and sanitary facilities? Are they hindered in any way to obtain the infrastructure for such things?
If they aren't, why do they need to dig tunnels to Egypt to get supplies?
They have Gaza strip and West Bank but if they're being isolated you might as well put them on an abandoned island.
I ask this because i've read a lot of articles of Palestinians being prevented from leaving or foreign aid being forbidden from going in the Gaza Strip.
It takes two hands to clap.

"Islam is not the word of God," said Yousef. "If you want to be offended it's your problem. But you know something? Go study. Think for a second that I might be right. So wake up, look at your path, see where you're going. Are you really going to heaven with 72 virgins after you kill yourself and kill another 20 people?"
Yousef has sought asylum in the United States and now attends an evangelical Christian church in San Diego, Calif.
"The Hamas leadership, including my father, they're responsible; they're responsible for all the violence that happened from the organization. I know they describe it as reaction to Israeli aggression, but still, they are part of it and they had to make decisions in those operations against Israel (for) which there was the killing of many civilians."
Yousef talks more about his extraordinary story of faith, courage, violence and betrayal in a FOX News documentary, "Escape From Hamas," hosted by Bill Hemmer.

Then he isn't a self-hating Hamas. He just hates Hamas and because of that, he left. I thought you meant that he was still in Hamas but hates the organisation and the things it commits.
While Hamas may do things that the Arabs living in the Occupied Territories do not agree with, Israel is also, under the pretext of battling Hamas, oppressing the Arabs there by blockading the place to absurd extents (placing a ridiculous amounts of checkpoints) and preventing necessities from reaching the Gaza Strip.

Once again, Israel is in the midst of murder and wanton destruction in Palestine. Gaza, after being starved of food, shelter, medical supplies and electricity, is again the stage for mass murder, the likes of which would normally elicit cries of protest the world over. However, the warped zeitgeist that currently pollutes reactions to Israeli violence has led to the usual commentaries of moral equivalency. The fact that the Palestinians had abided by the ceasefire agreement since the Fatah Hamas conflict in June 2007, but Israel broke it on November 5th this year is never mentioned in mainstream media. The same selective reporting was dominant during Israel's invasion of Lebanon in 2006 as Israel unleashed carnage and destruction upon a defenseless civilian population. What makes Israel immune to prosecution for crimes that are broadcast live on TV? Millions are bearing witness, millions are protesting in all corners of the world but we are left with the official judgment that Israel is only reacting to threats to its national security. After turning the Gaza strip in to the world's largest open air prison for 1.4 million souls and bleeding the inmates dry, unleashing a multibillion dollar military onslaught is now officially, in the western media, legitimate self defense. And all because the Palestinian people actually had the temerity to vote for Hamas instead of the Israeli controlled Fatah party. Democracy in action in the "only democracy in the Middle East".
The time for any sympathy for Israel has long since passed. The approval from George Bush, the cowardice of Gordon Brown, Nicholas Sarkozy and "there is only one President" Obama constitute an abrogation of moral law and acquiescence to mass murder. It's no big surprise from the first three in the list but Obama's "no comment" on this matter compared to his endless hours of speeches on his new vision for America, bodes ill for the universally expected "Change". The U.S. has paid Israel over $1 Trillion since its inception and, by continuing to support this apartheid regime, is complicit in Israel's crimes. The latter charge, though morally obvious, is difficult to prove in a court of law but Israel's crimes are not.
Israel signed the Geneva Convention on 7th June, 1951. For the Convention to have any value, Israel must be charged and made to stand trial in The Hague under the following sections.
Article 3 states "that even where there is not a conflict of international character the parties must as a minimum adhere to minimal protections described as: noncombatants, members of armed forces who have laid down their arms, and combatants who are hors de combat (out of the fight) due to wounds, detention, or any other cause shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, with the following prohibitions:
(a) Violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
(b) Taking of hostages;
(c) Outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment
(d) the passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court, affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples."
(a) Bombing of police stations, schools, ambulances, power plants and hospitals are designed to murder civilians indiscriminately.
(b) Israel's routine abduction of men, women and children in to Israeli detention camps. The number of such prisoners is 700,000 since 1967.
(c) Israeli soldiers routinely prevent pregnant women from receiving proper hospital treatment resulting in infant mortality, miscarriages and death.
(d) Israel's "targeted killings" of Hamas leaders constitutes murder.
Article 33 states "No protected person may be punished for an offence he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited.
Pillage is prohibited.
Reprisals against protected persons and their property are prohibited."
The unrelenting and merciless collective punishment of the Palestinian people has taken the form of..
(a) Destruction of Palestinian dwellings to make room for illegal settlements
(b) Destruction of Olive groves on Palestinian land and its resultant decimation of livelihoods.
(c) Bombing of a Palestinian power station collectively punished all Gaza inhabitants. Basic sanitation works were severely impacted.
(d) Blockading of medical supplies and food which left Palestinians eating grass for sustenance.
Israel has had resolutions passed against it since 1947 without any real enforcement. The sequence of resolutions below illustrates the complete lack of commitment of the United Nations to force Israel to comply with anything..
Resolution 636: " ... 'deeply regrets' Israeli deportation of Palestinian civilians.
Resolution 641: "... 'Deplores' Israel's continuing deportation of Palestinians.
Resolution 672: "... 'Condemns' Israel for "violence against Palestinians" at the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount.
Resolution 673: "... 'Deplores' Israel's refusal to cooperate with the United Nations.
Resolution 681: "... 'Deplores' Israel's resumption of the deportation of Palestinians.
Resolution 694: "... 'Deplores' Israel's deportation of Palestinians and calls on it to ensure their safe and immediate return.
Resolution 726: " ... 'strongly condemns' Israel's deportation of Palestinians.
Resolution 799: ". . . 'Strongly condemns' Israel's deportation of 413 Palestinians and calls for their immediate return.
The proposed resolution to stop the current round of carnage was vetoed by the U.S. right on cue. Once again Israel is given the green light to destroy everything in its path.
If we are to believe in the "change" so vociferously expounded upon then let it start with justice. Justice with regard to Israel has not been served. The new administration has a chance in 2009 to rectify this egregious breach of common decency and to inspire the world with hope. If it continues to morally and financially support this murderous, apartheid regime, how is anyone expected to believe that "change" is really on the horizon? -

Obama's national security spokeswoman Brooke Anderson issued a statement after the ground assault got underway, but offered no further comment on the violence in Gaza except to use a phrase repeated often by Obama and his aides:
"There is one president at a time and we intend to respect that."
Obama has spent the last several weeks pushing for an economic stimulus plan and has said that fixing the broken US economy is his top priority.
The soon-to-be president would face immense difficulty with his economic plans if he makes any move deemed "anti-Israel," according to a Friday opinion column.
"The White House will see its prime political enterprise, the economic recovery programme, immediately held hostage," according to the column.
Obama's silence is drawing criticism among Arabs who have grown skeptical that his administration will break with the Middle East policies of his predecessor.
The satellite TV network Al Jazeera contrasted footage of Obama wearing shorts and playing golf in Hawaii with scenes of the carnage in Gaza, by way of highlighting what it called "the deafening silence from the Obama team."

One would need to ask the following questions
1) why would Hamas launch the missile to Israel on Hanukka?
2) why would Hamas take this time to provoke the attack less than 30 days before a New US Presidents is to take office. instead of waiting for a new US President to shape a more liberal policy in the middle east?
3)who would Gain from this fight?
4) where is the oil price barometer?
I see this as a miss opportunity for Hamas to stand on moral high ground to the new US President administration instead it set the tone for a confrontation and force the new US administration to be more forceful n side with Israel.

And The current US President is not Obama. There are proper Protocol in a civil govt. Just because a different party sit in the white house after Jan 20th does not means that there is a 2nd Branch of govt in place. Please get your head clean.

If we are to believe in the "change" so vociferously expounded upon then let it start with justice. Justice with regard to Israel has not been served. The new administration has a chance in 2009 to rectify this egregious breach of common decency and to inspire the world with hope. The same selective reporting was dominant during Israel's invasion of Lebanon in 2006 as Israel unleashed carnage and destruction upon a defenseless civilian population. What makes Israel immune to prosecution for crimes that are broadcast live on TV? Millions are bearing witness, millions are protesting in all corners of the world but we are left with the official judgment that Israel is only reacting to threats to its national security. After turning the Gaza strip in to the world's largest open air prison for 1.4 million souls and bleeding the inmates dry, unleashing a multibillion dollar military onslaught is now officially, in the western media, legitimate self defense. And all because the Palestinian people actually had the temerity to vote for Hamas instead of the Israeli controlled Fatah party. Democracy in action in the "only democracy in the Middle East".
The time for any sympathy for Israel has long since passed. The approval from George Bush, the cowardice of Gordon Brown, Nicholas Sarkozy and "there is only one President" Obama constitute an abrogation of moral law and acquiescence to mass murder. It's no big surprise from the first three in the list but Obama's "no comment" on this matter compared to his endless hours of speeches on his new vision for America, bodes ill for the universally expected "Change". The U.S. has paid Israel over $1 Trillion since its inception and, by continuing to support this apartheid regime, is complicit in Israel's crimes. The latter charge, though morally obvious, is difficult to prove in a court of law but Israel's crimes are not.
Israel signed the Geneva Convention on 7th June, 1951. For the Convention to have any value, Israel must be charged and made to stand trial in The Hague under the following sections.
Article 3 states "that even where there is not a conflict of international character the parties must as a minimum adhere to minimal protections described as: noncombatants, members of armed forces who have laid down their arms, and combatants who are hors de combat (out of the fight) due to wounds, detention, or any other cause shall in all circumstances be treated humanely, with the following prohibitions:
(a) Violence to life and person, in particular murder of all kinds, mutilation, cruel treatment and torture;
(b) Taking of hostages;
(c) Outrages upon personal dignity, in particular humiliating and degrading treatment
(d) the passing of sentences and the carrying out of executions without previous judgment pronounced by a regularly constituted court, affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples."
(a) Bombing of police stations, schools, ambulances, power plants and hospitals are designed to murder civilians indiscriminately.
(b) Israel's routine abduction of men, women and children in to Israeli detention camps. The number of such prisoners is 700,000 since 1967.
(c) Israeli soldiers routinely prevent pregnant women from receiving proper hospital treatment resulting in infant mortality, miscarriages and death.
(d) Israel's "targeted killings" of Hamas leaders constitutes murder.
Article 33 states "No protected person may be punished for an offence he or she has not personally committed. Collective penalties and likewise all measures of intimidation or of terrorism are prohibited.
Pillage is prohibited.
Reprisals against protected persons and their property are prohibited."
The unrelenting and merciless collective punishment of the Palestinian people has taken the form of..
(a) Destruction of Palestinian dwellings to make room for illegal settlements
(b) Destruction of Olive groves on Palestinian land and its resultant decimation of livelihoods.
(c) Bombing of a Palestinian power station collectively punished all Gaza inhabitants. Basic sanitation works were severely impacted.
(d) Blockading of medical supplies and food which left Palestinians eating grass for sustenance.
Israel has had resolutions passed against it since 1947 without any real enforcement. The sequence of resolutions below illustrates the complete lack of commitment of the United Nations to force Israel to comply with anything..

Resolution 641: "... 'Deplores' Israel's continuing deportation of Palestinians.

I recall in 1997 HongKonger were asking why they have to speak Mandarin and not Cantonese. Why Hong Kong cannot be like Singapore n exist as a statehood?

If there is anything which you think is a lie, then the burden is on you to prove it so. Not just irresponsibly assert it.
So what do you think is a lie? The fact that Israel signed the 4th Geneva Convention? The fact that Israel has committed lots of human rights abuse? The fact that the US gives Israel billions of dollars of military aid annually? The fact that the US uses its UNSC veto regularly to protect Israel from condemnation?

I think Hamas changed their policy of destruction of Israel in 2006.
The Hamas movement is ready to recognize agreements signed with Israel, and in fact recognize Israel, but only within the '67 borders, senior Hamas member Khaled Suleiman said Wednesday.
According to Suleiman, the movement will be ready to accept a Palestinian state inside the '67 borders and will not operate to thwart diplomatic negotiations held by Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas...
