well, this might well be a case of a Mp telling the people how he was so underpriviledge that he did not have a chance to enjoy sg's 1st class public transport system.
I hoped he knows next to keep his mouth shut. he may have saved his leave, or save plenty to bring the family for a trip. but his mouth certainly does not.

I got university frens from elite schools and they are more or less ok but the snobbery of their school culture sometimes rubs off on them. I come from a neighbourhood school and sometimes they forget my background and start calling neighbourhood schools stupid. Their favourite insult when they argue with someone not from an elite school: "I'm from HCJC, where you study ar? Neighbourhood school only so kapoeh. You stupid. Shut up."

On the other hand, when people are in fear of losing their jobs (if they're lucky enough to not already be unemployed), telling the world about how much money you can afford to spend is simply rubbing people's faces in it.
Regardless of the economic situation, I'm willing to wager that for any private businessman, the almost-guaranteed first response to one of his employees saying that he can take five weeks' leave off and not be missed is, "You're not doing enough work". With his spending fifty grand learning to cook liver during that time, the boss would be thinking, "I've paid this bugger too much". Considering this civil servant is being paid too much for not doing enough work, why should there not be outrage about how the public's coffers are being squandered?
Considering this guy's supposed to be part of the system whose mandate is to ensure that people are not in fear of losing their jobs simply grinds salt into gaping wounds.
It simply flies in the face of good old common sense that this leech should be able to tell everyone how much he earns for what little he does, and expect to not attract comment, much less outrage.
that's a different matter altogether isn't it?we rail against the Senile Management and the high ranking sewer serpents... but what it comes down to is that he got his money honestly (even if you consider it undeserving) and he's blowing his cash his way.. honestly...

Bear, there wouldn't be any noise if this idiot hadn't gone and bragged about it, especially to a public that's shitting its pants about where the next meal's going to come from. I'd disagree that it's a case of sour grapes - just because this guy drew a salary doesn't necessarily mean that he's earned an honest day's work for an honest day's pay, and his bragging about being able to afford to take all that leave indicates that he hasn't.
