'God has granted us a great victory, not for one faction, or party, or area, but for our entire people,' said Mr Haniya, the prime minister appointed by the Islamist movement Hamas in the impoverished territory.

The senior Hamas leader has been in hiding since the start of the offensive on December 27, but made two previous televised statements promising victory amid the deadliest Israeli offensive ever launched on the territory.
Mr Haniya confirmed his movement's decision earlier on Sunday to adhere to its own unilateral truce for one week to allow Israel to withdraw all its troops and to reopen Gaza's border crossings.
'The groups of the resistance have decided to halt their fire in Gaza so that the enemy army can completely withdraw,' he said.
'The decision proves that the resistance was correct and responsible, and works according to the interests of our people.'
Israeli troops began withdrawing from Gaza after the ceasefire took effect at 2 am on Sunday (8am Singapore time) but the Jewish state has said its military will return fire if attacked and has not set a date for their full withdrawal. -- AFP

Victory measured by objectives. For a super smart student, getting 9 As and 1 B is a failure since the aim is 10A,
for another student, getting all Cs is a great victory since the aim is all pass.
So for Hamas, they acheive their objective, even though in real life their score will be like D, but it's above their aim of not getting an F. So... Hamas wins!
So buei hiao bai one sia. ![]()
No one wins..
Olmert think that he can win an election through playing the Palestinian Card. Hamas thinks that it has won as now they possess the sentiment of the Palestinian people and the Arab world. In the end, it just means more Israeli infractions, and Palestinian deaths down the road. Who wins? No one does. Only losers - the Israeli and Palestinian people.

By voting in a government that is paying lip service to the two state solution, and any end to the cycle of violence.
Hooray for Hamas !!
Now they could own a land of destory building, citizen without jobs, most or all public building in ruin and most of all..... fighter jets dropping bombs or rocket on them at will..... ![]()
But I'm Soooooo happpy that they 'WON' ![]()
Palestinians and Israelis have to open their eyes and see that the enemy isn't the one who bears the star of david or is someone with a Hamas head scarf emblazoned across their foreheads. It is the artisans of terror, and self-serving politicians who would just allow this conflict to drag on to serve their own political ambitions.
For to them, this mantra holds 'The Strong do what they can, the weak suffer what they must" - Thucydides.
LOL
That Haniya won by HIDING.![]()
sure Hamas win,
if we consider winning by hiding its soldiers in civilians compound or in the vincity of UN compound.
If we consider a victory that the opponents has move it tanks and soldiers into the city of Gaza.
If we consider a victory whereby the enemy leave the terrritory not becoz it was beaten back but withdrawel at its own pace and time.
If we consider a victory whereby the enemy has destroy buildings and they themselves just fire rocket blindly across the borders.
If we consider a victory whereby the opponents can strike them as and when they like.
Both sides fight, both sides proclaims to be suffering, both sides proclaim "win."
This is the best "win-win" situation in the middle east man.

Hamas will stop launching rockets for a week for IDF to withdraw from Gaza, precisely what the IDF is going to do after achieving it's goal.
Operation Lead Cast is a success.
Hamas will declare 'victory'.
Operation Lead Cast Part Deux in the making - negotiation for the release of Gilad Shalit.
Can expect another round for Hamas to declare 'victory'.

why can't Israel do the job once and for all?
Slaughter everything that moves. Weed out the seeds (æ–©è‰å¤„æ ¹) to prevent future conflicts.
Same goes for the West Bank.
well, at least there's going to be peace
the losers are the dead civilians...
no one wins...
except the undertaker
hamas speech sounds very familiar to someone i know of... someone who once said this "There are no American infidels in Baghdad. Never!" LOLx
Feel pitiful to them....
Despite losing very badly and incurring massive costs, they still had to put up these bravado speeches......
What is wrong if you admit defeat, and then say, for example, "we will learn from this defeat and come out stronger, we will surely recover and emerge even stronger in the future" , why cant they say these words instead of pretending.
Hamas: We only lost 48 fighters ![]()
Israel lost "at least 80 soldiers" in the fighting?! ![]()

they "won" because the IDF are withdrawing. even if they fight til only 1 man left and
IDF withdraw i guess they can still say they "won"
situations like this still talk so big. lol
