Sgfourms, so many people from all walks of life surfing it.
Shall we all contribute some ideas and suggestions to help our economy from the recession?
No flaming please, as there will be no dumb or silly or un-doable ideas.
By pooling our suggestions and ideas together, we are actually helping ourselves if we can collect enough suggestions and ideas to help our economy.
I go first lor...since I start this topic. ![]()
I think the government should start up many new/young government-funded companies for each and every commercial/industry/specialise sectors in Singapore, instead of injecting funds into the already existing mature government-funded corporations. The idea is to diversify the job demands and use the recession period as a golden opportunity to further widen the working sectors in Singapore.
This will create demand and job opportunities for our current workforce and future workforce alike.
The reason why we are experiencing the economic downturn and facing the inevitable recession is because our current existing work sectors are at risks of crumbling and if we look at it, we are talking about the entire work sectors at risks.
Say if our existing work sectors is 100% currently in Singapore because we don't have any new work sectors emerging in Singapore. What if the government decides to create new work sectors to add into the current work sectors in Singapore. These new work sectors could be anything discovered through R&D, it could be anything that was already part of the current work sectors but branched out to form it's own unique specialise industry or companies. It could also be something that hasn't had any demand for it yet, or something that was sprouted out as an idea for the future of Singapore.
As long as there is an idea produced, there will one day eventually be a demand for it.
By expanding the current work sectors in Singapore by DOUBLED, meaning the current work sectors + the new work sectors = 200% of the current work sectors. The impact on the recession in the overall work sectors would have been reduced by 1/2 or 50%.
But this is only an idea and suggestion, as I do not know or want to elaborate on the advantages of doing so. I'll leave all that to your imaginations ok? ![]()
Please contribute as much suggestions and ideas as you can, and I believe at difficult periods like this, Singapore will be able to show the world that we can do better and outshine and lead other countries out of this economic recession.
And also most importantly......I don't want to see or know anyone of you here to be homeless or struggling through these desperate times. ![]()
I have always believe we all can do better in our lives.
Keynesian theory.........

spend the money finding natural resources like gas or other minerals.
Or pump money into the arms industry. Singapore shall become the major arms maker and exporter in Southeast Asia. Be it nukes, lasers, battleships, aircraft carrier, submarines...haha...play too much warship gunner

What is so bad about Singapore being an exporter of high tech products? Look around, there are so many things which are basically rooted in 1950s era technology. The opportunities for real returns from investments in applied research are very real.
All wealth is derived from production. The state of the American economy proves that a service dominated economy cannot support long term growth. The idea that wealth can be magically created by offering financial services not rooted in production has been shown to be a Ponzy scheme.
Japan, Israel, China, they're all spending on applied research because that is the precursor to new industrial activity. Even though we have been wasting a disproportionate amount of money on basic research, it is still not too late to redirect our resources to more productive channels.
Most importantly, we need a paradigm shift, we need to do away with the old rentier mindset, we need to do away with the elitism and we need to fund promising innovations and see it through to manufacturing and export. Arms, power plants, solar panels, water recycling systems, foldable mini-scooters, no taboos, everything is fair game. Look at how Russia banked heavily on its arms industries to pick itself up after the breakup of the USSR. Everything needs to be directed at building our own industries, the time has come. If we accept that wealth must come from production, what can we else can produce? This is what a knowledge based economy is all about. It seems somehow the effort to build up KBE capacity got sidetracked by the easy money but now that that's all over we should redouble our efforts to build up KBE capabilities.

...yes and vote honorable people that make policies for the good of the country instead of policies for the good of their cronies and dogs in.
Damn it, just vote anybody in, for that is good in that it will get rid of at least some of the dishonorable assholes....
I suggest that my Uncle Andrew stop cursing till the economy rebound back.

what will we get if we vote for you other than natural resources?
I would get rid of the SM and MM posts and get a new person for the PM position. One which is paid much more realistically. It's absurd to think that Singapore PM is paid much more than the US president.
Just my 2 cents anyway.

I will vote for you if garbage becomes the valuable nature resources for Singapore. ![]()
The benefits will vary according to the resources.
If it is oil--rest assured singaporeans will not have to pay for transport, be it public or private.
If it is diamonds, singaporean men can buy any type of diamond for free, regardless of the size or quality. In addition, they can sell it.
I will also ask scientists to develop body/organ exchange kits for all singaporeans so that when they have a failed organ, they just buy it at 10% of the cost. The rest is subsidized by the government.

good suggestion!
Let's raid the country's reserves. Oops, PAP already doing it.
Th problem with singapore is its overdependence on the rest of the world and not concentrating in developing its own talents.
short and simple.
The only solution really is to up the quality of the education system. It has been going down over the last decade or so. Drilling et infinitum can only take you so far.
Ah, a good one, utilising nanotechnology to convert garbage into useful items...
We could make battle tanks from aluminum cans!!!

Won't happen in decades.
if Singapore Food Industries can supply 90% of SAF cook house ration
why can't we have many hawker stall at different location selling subsidise food to citizen or even using food coupon.
NEA hawker centre suppose to sell economic cheap good food to benefic citizen.
Spend more on domestic items to beef up domestic market. Encourage people to invest more instead to save. However takes time to restore public confidence.
seek and create suitable niche industry.
i think SG govt should do.
look at what are the existing knowledged gain in developing SG thru the last 40 yrs that could be benefit to the less developed countries. (And i don't mean Govt to Govt project like China n India) What is lack of are unable to Transpose these knowledge into private commercial services.
Such as using Transportation and public housing, tourism knowledge and operate or built to mid or less developed countries, thru SG private services companies.
Also SG should use IE to help to engage Singapore Small businesses to the world. Help the small businesses expanding market share start making contact abroad.
Tell the Govt to make themselve useful and agressively pull demand into SG.
What i think SG govt should stop doing.....
The "SG" branding is not working for SG private sector. So i think that should not continue to throw money into it.
Look at the world beyond China and India. I think it is seriously small to look at china. The more our business are diversify the more adverse the economy.
R yr paying S$million to give suggestion?![]()
I have a good idea but will not reveal it unless I was paid S$million like yr minister.
To vote PAP out, our nation's foundation must be able to withstand the shock of such a change.
With the PAP out, we will have more money to develop local talents and the industries here better.
