Sad but true not only we have to compete for the job,we have to compete for OTs etc too.FTs is okay but not in huge numbers.Once i saw 2 Chinaman promoted to supervisor in less than 3 years of service with no proper education earning SGD 1800 P/m!To make thing sour most of the OTs will be given to fellow Chinaman only.

If there's anything I admire about the "scholars" I encountered so far is their drive......Their drive to do well. They are good at marketing themselves at that too.

Maybe when the time is right i'll get some FT's and pay'em peanuts and treat them especially like shiet.
And get a singaporean and treat him nice and pay him more to show my support for my country but what the hell this countries gonna go up in smokes anyway.

We serve 2 years of sweat, tears and pain in National Service and, some DIE DURING NS, and also getting paid mere peanuts for?? The least the government can do to show they CARE and APPRECIATE how 2 years or more some of us suffered is to give us a job.

i find that guys like to Use army on us as a sorry state of their sacrification, this is really lame. As a man, you should serve proudly with intergrity and dignity rather than going around begging govt or we sing gal to feel sorry for you. Really Bo ji army.As such, i will like to ask the govt, why are we paying taxes to total defence army when our guys are not taking it seriously and use it as a tool of sympathy.

This is very grey.
For the FT, they think that they should have the benefits because they contributed the country.
For the citizens, they think that Singapore is owned by them.
For the government I guess, they just implement policies that benefit Singapore.
I agreed on TS thoughts on "When you think of calling yourself a citizen don't you think it should carry some pride?"
The government should look into ways to inject these "pride" into Singapore citizens. As a multi racial and multi religion society, this is very important. But, in order hand, this is a very difficult task. A task that needed talent that the government lack of.

You explain that to the families who lost their only sons to NS. You just don't know what its like. Yes, you are right that as a gal now, i am not married nor hv any son, but if one day, my son is to for his NS, I will be very proud to tell everyone, the my son serves the NS, and if he will to die in training, the flag of singapore will still ride high in our heart.

Let me tell you the truth, without the FTs or FLs here, we can kiss goodbye to years of economy progress and without mentioning about the current recession, we may be out of jobs long ago already.
We must look at FT and FL as one of the pillar in our national economy progression, without them, companies may move out and we ended with no job too. Protectionsim is not viable in a globlised and open economy that we adhered. It is of good fortune that our neighbouring countries are not doing so well, so industrialised and open as us, therefore, we get to bring their talents and workforces into our society. In a marco view, we absorbed their brains and physical strengths to help us build our economy. To thanks them or not is not a problem, cos they get a good paid here in comparing to their homeland whereby they may not even find a job. But nevetheless, it is a win win situation for us and them.
I agreed that Our local talents do face a competitive edge with FTs, so are our local labours, but instead of keep complaining, it is time to upgrade oneself and be nimble about the real facts rather then thinking that as a singaporeans you are nos 1, and the silver plate must be serve infront of you. Gone are the days where you command high paid with a iron rice bowl career but doing nothing productively. We should take FTs pressence as a wake up call that we hv to stay relevant, work hard and be flexible at all times. It is no more a spoonfeeding society, we are free to roam. Airport open 24/7. The choice is yours.
