Anti-terror tactics 'weaken law'

  Extract part of http://news.bbc.co.uk "Anti-terror measures worldwide have seriously undermined international human rights law, a report by legal experts says. After a three-year global study, the International Commission of Jurists said many states used the public's fear of terrorism to introduce measures. These included detention without trial, illegal disappearance and torture. It also said that the UK and the US have "actively undermined" international law by their actions. It concluded that many measures introduced to fight terrorism were illegal and counter-productive. It called for justice systems to be strengthened and warned that temporary measures should not become permanent. The Geneva-based International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) is a non-governmental organisation which promotes the observance of the rule of law and the legal protection of human rights. The panel of eminent lawyers and judges concluded that the framework of international law that existed before the 9/11 attacks on the US was robust and effective."

  If those so-called terrorists really hate our freedoms, or whatever's left of it, then maybe governments are taking it away so that the terrorists have less to hate us for.

  The Criminal Justice of each country should be able to handle and put to trial the accused persons of terrorism. If there is a need to revise the Criminal Justice, to include death penalty, do it in a democratic way. Remember, a person is innocent until proven guilty. No excuse should be given such as compromise of national security if the accused persons are put on open trial. Such excuse, it seems is acceptable now to most countries just because Uncle Sam is doing it. Lock up and torture accused persons for more than 8 years without trial. Is this justice that the west is promoting? Always barking at China for human rights abuse while you are doing worse than China. Always barking at Iran, North Korea etc for posing danger to the world.

  the terrorists aim is to create trouble between the citizens and govt , generally their aim is to bring about unhappiness and discontent. when they achieve this aim, then they will progress to their 2nd level goals to create more mayhem. That, i think is their true aim.
