Economic is cyclical process, up and down, up and down, the differences is today downturn will be longer as it is a GLOBAL recession that affect the rich and the poor both in paper loss and the later, job loss.
As we are tack to the global economy, we tends to be hit first and fast, but statistics had shown that once the economy pick up, we are the first to rise further than most countries.
So, to all my Uncles and your clones, please shut up and take your rebates.
but statistics had shown
Source please.
just asking... does any opposition member in singapore predict the present fiancial crisis 2 years ago ? If george bush and the incredible american banks themselves doesn't see such a scenario and prevent it, I do not see who can predict such a disaster. I also see a lot of fiancial legends buying shares now and they r burned as well. Nobody knows wat the future is like
Fact is, there r always doom days predictor writing books on global warming, world running out of crude oil or bird flu killing the whole population etc. However how far should the government go in preventing the above scenario ?
However I agree tat the gov deserves to be blamed for losing so much money. Someone's head should roll.

Let's make a difference together

Did CapitaLand just adopt SDP's proposal?
It was reported today that
Government-linked company CapitaLand will pay its managers with
shopping voucers. If this sounds familiar, it's because the Singapore
Democrats recently proposed in our alternative budget that Singaporeans
be given spending vouchers.
Even before the budget debate began in
February, the SDP had made a 5-point alternative plan that would help
Singaporeans in the recession as well as to stimulate the economy.
Among these is dispensing vouchers to households especially to the
lower-income ones. (See here) Even a PAP MP raised the idea during the Parliamentary session.
So
the next time the ruling party and its supporters say that the SDP is
not a constructive opposition, just tell them that if CapitaLand and
PAP MPs can adopt this and other of our proposals (see here), maybe its time the PAP starts acknowledging the truth about the Singapore Democrats...

Go vote for SDP in next elections.

me is the source...1985...recovered by 1986-87, after me born, good fortune for singapore, then 1998, recovered 1999, not much affected as our economic was strong..then 1999 9/11, we still stood up very fast, then 2000-01 middle east war, we still stood firm and enjoyed good economic growth, then 2003-2003 Sars, we are back in business by end of 2003...then we enjoyed a period of goodtimes, and now 2008-09, as it is more of a global issue, the recession will take a longer time, as MM, my lau hero said, " this time, is not a V shape recovery but rather a U shaped one, it will take longer, rich are holding back, but they dun hold back for too long"
No source talk cock, shut up lah.
imagine if all these monies go to help local companies to do better, employ more staff, spur local growth and economy, rather than helping other countries, managing bad debts and solve other countries problems?
I saw some news just now.
Apparently, Temasek is reported to be one of 3 entities bidding to buy a part of AIG.

We going for broke.....
Typical behavior of gambling addicts... instead of stopping, they gamble more and more to win back the losses.... that is how the chap serving 35 years for gambling away $100 million of APB's and bank's money behaved...
GIC has officially become common shareholders of Citi. No more dividends payout. anyone wana guess whether Citi can survive this crisis? if yes, at what cost to GIC? personally, Citi is basically nationalised.
Only despots will try to maximise profits at governemnt owned company. A national bank in the US will be doing public service. This is why when the plan was announced, investors fled the bank and its price dropped to $1.50
These asshole dishonorable despots just love to lick foreign asses using Singaporeans hard earned money.
Singaporeans must curse them.
citi is "economicaly" bankrupt with very high net debt. in other words, economically the shares are worthless.
What an asshole, talking this type of cock after as prime minister AND finance minister, he let his father and wife lose $100 billion of Singapore's reserves.

Not yet nationalized, but I suspect that the Americans are planning to.
After Citi grabs all the foreign $$$ from the SWFs, they will probably nationalize the bank and take it off the stock market. All the SWFs involved will become permanent losers.

Has it ever happened historically?
I can understand if it's just Singapore that's going to be screwed, but surely China and the EU aren't going to just take that lying down?

me got no cock, how to shut up!!!!, u better shut the F up yourself!!!!
i support angel's view. If singapore government is so bad, then those who are unhappy can move to other countries.
GIC is paid to make investments, otherwise why are they in GIC in the first place. Given the economic climate, any stocks or bonds u buy sure kena big time. But the key is how to minimize the losses now and achieve higher return in the future. Do we have the holding power and the answer is a definite yes!
If our government is sucking our $$$, then andrew and ah pok can consider moving to australia. The tax rate there is around 40-50%.
Continue complaining and whining if u must. For whatever, u do in this forum (scold, insult, curse, whatsoever), u will still live in pathetic misery.
You can don't collect the public money in the first place. You can don't gamble with what you collect.
Gambling addicts will always be gambing addicts.
Dishonorable people wil always be dishonorable.
The curses on them will always rub off on the people that support them and if the country supports them, the curses will always rub off on the country and lightning will strike the statue representing the country as a warning for people to stop supporting them or else...

Peoples seek the peace and harmony, lose or win is another issue, peoples are innocent, a layman on the street go to work, care for family, ensure peace and harmony and do the best he can for the nation. I believe singapore have this advantages and it is a blessing that we are here, my PRC gals, thai gals, vietnam gals also told me that I am lucky to be a Singapore gal, no doubt the costs of living is high but you got foods, shelters and work here. And most important, clean and peaceful. And when i told some of these foreign gals that our govt is giving money to us...they were surprise and bewildered, they dun believe govt giving money till i show them the news. So, just imagine where we are now, no doubt there maybe some unpopular decisions by the govt, but overall, the good supersede the bad, we must therefore embrace what we had now, treasure it, appreciate it and work for a better tomorrow instead of cursing and cursing and cursing...till high blood, insanity and die of anger, for what???
Uncle, as the chinese said,"when you dun see your coffin, you dun shed a tear" till then, have a nice evening.

Work for a better tommorrow? The public do not have much say on how the country is run, how to "work for better tommorow". Its not even within our means. Unless you count planting flowers or trees to improve the enviroment as one way to move forward. And why should i just ignore the failings of the current govt when they are fecking paid big bucks, more than the international average for politicians. I want heads to roll! damn it!
Giving money is a sign for good goverment? do tell me how much that money can change the standard of living for most of us? for one is too buy something new or extra money for the month, for another it means eating an extra dish for each meal for a month or so. Even that it depends whether it is hawker, food court or restaurant meal. Like that transsexual faggot Vivian have said boldly.
we ought to open our eyes to the world..
