Need some explanation- CDO and subprime

  Pardon me for asking this question. I am only sec 3. What is CDO and subprime? I know this two terms are connected with the global reccession and can anyone tell me what are they and how these affected the global market? Is it that banks lend ppl the $$$ and package it as CDO and sell to others as an investment?
