reading the recent reports about prataman "saying yes" to opening up the reserves made me wonder about how useful the elected presidency really is.
ong teng cheong tried to vitalise the presidency, but the forces were too large for him to overcome. he remains the best president singapore ever had...
人都在了,还说这个有个用?
Can you please dont say prataman..?
It's not very nice...
If you disagree about something, just talk about the subject....
he would raise question but would open the reserved. At the end of the day he is still a PAP.
OTC would have said yes and even raise the amount of reserve money for use...
OTC will probably question LKY and HC about the $100 BILLION losses suffered by GIC and Temasek.
At this point in time, the PAP Parliament has not made a squeak about this matter, and both Chiam and Low have not table questions demanding an independent inquiry to this disgraceful situation from a leadership team that pride itself as having THE Talents and THE Foresight to protect OUR money.
To answer the topic, OTC would have said no, because he would not have had the right information to make the decision..
What I find odd is that OTC was denied information regarding the reserves, yet the current pres was able to make such a critical decition on the reserves within a day. So should we assume the gov had already given current pres all the key figures to the amount of reserves, the earnings on said reserves, and the current state of those reserves? Should we assume mister pres had due time to contemplate the ramifications of the decision?
Did current pres actually ask those vital questions in the 24 hours that he took to change the constitution?

that is one reason why i started this thread. another way to put it is:
is our president saying yes blind to all the same facts that ong teng cheong was denied?

that depends on who's side he's on isn't it?
Open or don't open also die. People sure got something to say. "keep in reserves for wat ? people are suffering"..."Would Ong Teng Cheong have said yes"?
He is paid 3.5 million to say yes.
He have said it, now he is worth the pay.
As for the role of P, it used to command my respect as he represent the big boss like WKW.
They have distorted his role as a key keeper.
Although he is paid so much, he is worse than a dog that can guard a house.

can bark but will also let stranger in? ![]()
Ong Teng Cheong, best president ever!

Both are Party Members.
The US Goverment needs the Congress to approve the stimulus package. Here, a prata seller and a bunch of so called "advisors" readily approve the money in what? 11 days? Who they work for? And what are their political leanings? PAP. Might as well do away with a prata man guard and a bunch of nobodies to guard our reserves so that at least we save a few mil in wages rather than install a yes-man who readily agrees everything the PAP Govt wants him to do.
At least in the US, the oppos readily questions every part of any bill proposed by the President and will not hesitate to vote against if its goes against the interest of the nation. Here, we got 3 idiots who sit in Parliament and make some polite noises, but when push come to shove, they kept quiet, suddenly unable to speak. With this kind of opposition MPs in Singapore, we might as well have an all PAP parliament.

Isn't Wee Kim Wee a better President?
At least he lived long enough to complete his term. ![]()

Umm, excuse me, that is because prataman, er . . . er I mean Pres Nathan is the chosen one by the father, son, PAP, so ...... Ha ha ha, a puppet President.
History will show whether he have done his basic role that he was nominated for.
If the truth prevails that he have failed himself and the people, he will pay his price for the rest of history.
As for the reserves, it will be still be wasted away if paper generals are employed as investment management role.
It is time to pay the right person for the right job instead of creating job for people that do not have experiences.
We have already learned the billion dollars lesson the hard way.
We do not have any more spare money for these paper generals to learn their lessons through mistakes.
If the paper generals are genuine elites, they should be able to survive in any organisations are not government-linked.

history so far seems to be written by the ministry of education lol
and from that i can see a heroic president who "forged bravely ahead" despite public concerns
as for failing the people, he did at least did what 66% wanted didn't he?
