There is a possibility of modifying them in some way or the other to increase firepower.
I don't agree bb guns/airsoft should be banned. Perhaps an age limit to those who handle those items would be good, or impose fine, should the owner cause injuries to people, or confine the airsoft at home.

What if the pellet hits the human eye, or some 1 in 100 chance of hitting soft tissue and into a vital organ?Originally posted by Flight Cadet Officer:the pellet is design in a way that it loses kinetic energy after first 10m. it is also designed to break into pieces when hit upon hard surface. protective gears are also provided. death cannot occur with the use of airsoft. simply because it is designed that way

The fact that it breaks into pieces makes it even harder to detect and clear the fragments in the event of an injury.
Surely you are exaggerating in your figures about the gun ownership population of the world?
The larger gun owing population in the USA maybe sane, all it takes is for 10% to go insane, and that will be havoc enough.
There are already insufficient population growth in Singapore, and with diseases such as heart attacks, high blood pressure, cancer, and others, as well as traffic accidents, occassional murders and street fights homicides.
Do we need the possibility of some smart intelligently miscreants to convert an "Air Gun" into a weapon?
