Not another flip-flopping "Syed Hamid" ?!
At least Najib's about turn within 48hr about "assets" on PB is a
wise one. Such provocation by Malaysians intrusion has already
strain the ties, increase mutual suspicion & only play to the tune of
hardliners in KL government . -
After the signing ceremony, to send the PB dispute to the IJC, Syed Hamid had corrected Jayakumar's statement that "it is not correct that some countries should enact domestic laws to nullify international agreements, such as the water agreement.
Syed Hamid played with words, when he said that Malaysia has not enacted any domestic laws to nullify any international agreements.
This was contrary to his press statement, and also that of the Malaysian Prime Minister, as well as the Malaysian Law Minister, that it is within their sovereign right to pass any laws concerning the protection of national assets - that will include water resources.
Monday's report in the New Straits Times, had reported that Syed Hamid had again stated this position again.
It looks like the "flip flop" of statements contradict themselves for the sake of whether they are addressing a domestic audience for parochial interests, or for an international audience to gain recognition of being reasonable.
The UMNO Politicians would like to project themselves as good Muslim, with an international stature of generosity towards Singapore, which is a largely non-Muslim, and largely Chinese community that is too successful and arrogant for its own good. -
Flipflop not new to the Malaysians. They think it is a cute characteristic in dealing with Singapore.

If they want to patrol Pedra Branca, fine WE give them the rights to patrol with only sampans.
At most two men per sampan. The men has no rights to step on Singapore's property, the lighthouse nor the helipad (All structures built by Singapore). They can only step on Pedra Branca stone itself. They must not put any Malaysian flags. Sampans can only be equipped with a radio, two oars, a smoke signal grenade in order to call for help of Singapore Navy and Coast Guards and NOTHING ELSE! (No guns or arms and no parangs)

Honestly, we only need to chase away their armed vessels. In this case, they cannot invoke the right of innoncent passage. Since they are not passing through, but attempting to patrol.
Also, we are to maintain status quo until ICJ decides otherwise. That no Malaysian flagged ship may enter the water, conduct research, survey, fishing and any activities having no direct involvment with their passage.
However, if they are really that free, they may sail over in their sampans or whatever boats, carry protest signs n boards around PB. That I don't think we should chase them away, but rather sit back and enjoy the show. See how long they can fast without food and water. -
Look at their body language. Jaya is not stepping forward further to give a warm handshake, rather stay in his position, bending his body a bit forward to offer a handshake to Hamid. Interpret more like I hold my ground but is willing to negotiate further. Hamid on the other hand, doesn't seem to move from his position when stood up and also not willing to extend his hand forward but keeping within his personal ring. Doesn't look very sincere in this handshake. Looks more like "you want to settle, bow to me....becos I'm your abang and I gave you independance".
Bet that media report, especially from M side will be hot and interesting in near future. Problem is that 75% chance we will get PB back....but we will be squeeze tight in other area, the usual stuff. -

No lah, I saw the whole press conference. There wasn't any sincerity at all. Anyway, good to be observance on people. Don't believe, try catching a person when he lie. He will either roll his eyes, avoid eye contact or soften the "lie part" conversation when answering to you.
BTW, if you are ever handshake a person who greet you profusely with two hand covering your etended hand. 80% chance that he is cunning and insincere. Parts and puzzel of everyday life experience.
